“This award could not have come from a more renownedCanadian organization. 116 years old and you have been the platform
from which the eloquence of Canada has flowed all of that time.Whether it be business, education, politics, sports, arts and culture…
if someone wants to say something to Canadians aboutthis country and about the future of this country, this is the venue
you choose and that’s why I was thrilled to be honouredwith this award.”
2012 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient, Lloyd Robertson
The Canadian Club of Toronto is driven by our rich history and now, more than ever, we are inspired by our future.
Together, we’re building a foundation for another century of engagement with the people, topics, and events that matter most to Canadians. We’re also proudly nurturing future leaders and expanding our reach across new media channels. And through all of it we’re improving our services to continually provide the very best programming in the country. This is our future – bold, bright, connected. We are the Canadian Club of Toronto.
While the fabric of the Club may have changed over our
history, fundamentally our goal remains the same –
to connect Canadians with leaders and influencers of our
day and to engage Canadians on what matters most.
As President of the Canadian Club this past year it was
my goal to stay true to our 117-year tradition while
modernizing our events and preparing for the future.
It was important for me to ensure that the Club
readied itself to access the new channels and audiences
that became available. As a result, this past season
we launched our first Book Series. These successful
evening events engaged a new network of Canadians
on topical issues such as diversity, inclusion, gender,
and career building. Engaging in meaningful dialogue
on these issues is critical and I am proud that we
were able to successfully launch a new event format
while promoting discussion on these important themes.
The 2013/2014 season saw the Club embark on another
important mission of engagement – we wanted to ensure
young people had access to the messages our speakers
share. To this end, our traditional student tables evolved
to become “Youth and Young Leaders’ Tables”. These
tables are filled with the best and brightest youth in
the city – from elementary school students right
up to young people from alumni associations and
young professional networks.
The Canadian Club of Toronto’s future is bright and
full of potential. As Canada’s Podium of Record it is
our mission to engage Canadians, challenging them to
participate in the issues that are changing how we live
and work every day. I hope that you, as a valued
supporter of the Club, will continue to help us in
this goal. Whether it is as a speaker, a sponsor or an
audience member, the contribution you make to
the Club is an important one.
I encourage you to stay connected to the Club.
Please continue to attend our events, tune in to our
podcasts and webcasts, and join the conversation
on social media. As we look to the future, it is more
important than ever that we can count on your
support, feedback, and ideas.
Thank you for the privilege of serving you as
President. I look forward to seeing you at our events
in the year ahead.
Gordon G. Raman

The Canadian Club of Toronto has a fascinating history
and a longstanding tradition of engaging Canadians.
Over the years, the Club has showcased vision and expertise
from diverse sectors such as politics, the arts, business,
and technology. Looking ahead to the 2014/2015 season,
we are focused on delivering excellent programming with
today’s most exciting thought leaders. And, with every
event, we will continually refine and improve our services
to propel the Club to new heights and standards.
Today, there are so many commitments on our time;
the need to have it all – right here and right now –
is a weighty proposition, yet, it is still important to slow
down and come together with invaluable dialogue on
the opportunities and challenges that affect our city,
our country, and our future.
My goal during this season is to balance time with the
execution of our mission. To this end, I have committed
to putting the value back on your time while maximizing
engagement with our speakers, sponsors, and audience
members.
Please join us at our upcoming events to connect with
some of the most fascinating people and stories of
our time. Events to watch for include: the Philanthropy
Panel, the Order of Canada, and our Canadian of the
Year and Lifetime Achievement awards.
Finally, as the landscape for public platforms continues
to expand, I am proud that the Canadian Club of Toronto
continues to be the podium of choice. I call upon you –
speakers, sponsors and loyal Club members alike – to help
us keep it that way. I urge and encourage you to attend
our events, download our digital content, and engage in
the conversations we start on social media. Your continued
support moves us toward greater achievement.
I thank you for your support in seasons past and look
forward to your keen participation and to seeing you –
and hearing from you – as often as possible during the
2014-2015 season.
Jennifer M. Sloan
Incoming President 2014-2015
Building for the future has always been at the forefront of discussion at the Canadian Club. The speakers at our podium gather at the Club to express their vision for a better tomorrow without losing sight of today’s realities. When those messages resonate and we connect with the leaders on the podium, our opportunity to help shape the future of Canada grows.
