The MTSF has limitations in regards to the implementation of the NDP However, the MTSF is not contradicting the NDP The goals and targets in the NDP are clear, but the methods and
indicators to inform progress is woefully inadequate The absence of an evidence framework undermines the credibility of good intentions and actions

The immediate Way Forward
• Minister in the Presidency has already given marching orders
• Locate NDP as the driver of MTSF and all other plans
• DPME and Stats SA work on NDP indicators leading the measurement of change through engagement with line ministries
• Track NDP indicators together with SDG indicators.
• Present indicators that will drive the NDP at July Cabinet Lekgotla

Strategic priority: GDP expenditure approach
Project rationale: Improving quality through increased collaboration and integration.
How: By producing a set of coherent and integrated accounts derived from all three GDP approaches under one institution.
Why: Alignment with overwhelming international best practice and promote active confrontation of GDP estimates in the process of compiling them
Foundation: Dedicated training of skilled professionals by international experts (collectively more than 100 years experience in the field)
Partnerships: A joint steering committee and working group established to manage the transition. The Governor's Executive Committee was recently briefed.
Progress: Publish official estimates in March 2016
What lies ahead?: Strategic engagements with all relevant parties to ensure confidence in the statistical system.
