THE BIG 5: Misconceptions about Bernie Sanders1. He isn’t electable, he can’t beat Trump.

No presidential candidate has EVER won with a negative favorability rating[1]. Take a look at

how Bernie and Hillary stack up with previous presidential candidates [2], and also how they

perform against GOP frontrunners in a potential general election matchup[3].

Independent (IND) voters make up an astonishing 42% of the electorate! As a result, thecandidate that a majority of IND voters prefer will likely become the next POTUS. Thus far,

Bernie has won the IND vote in every state but Alabama, and done so by very large margins

(69%-30% in Illinois, for example). On the GOP side, INDs strongly favor Trump[4].

    2. He doesn’t have a plan to pay for any of this stuff!

That couldn’t be further from the truth. Bernie has a far more detailed plan to pay for his

proposed programs than Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump do [5]. See for yourself:

    3. He’s TOO OLD!

Bernie Sanders is 74. Bernie Sanders would be the oldest president ever elected to a first

term. But so would Donald Trump (70 if elected). And Hillary Clinton

would tie for oldest (69 if elected). Besides, Bernie’s medical records show

that he is “in overall very good health” [1,6]. Check out the QR code to see a

    4. Isn’t he a SOCIALIST?

Bernie Sanders is a DEMOCRATIC  socialist. He believes that our current economic system

isn't doing enough for poor and middle-class Americans and that democratic change is

needed to create a more fair and just America[1].

In order to be truly free—in addition to freedom of speech—we have a right to free

healthcare, free public education, and a living-wage job. EVERYONE deserves a dignified

minimal standard of living. This is democratic socialism.

Many of the programs instituted by FDR and Lyndon Johnson that we take for granted

today—such as Medicare, the 40-hour work week, the minimum wage, and Social

    Security—can be considered socialist programs[1].

    5. He’s going to raise my taxes!

Only if your family makes $250,000+ (top 3%[7]) will your marginal income tax rate go up

slightly[8]. And only money made beyond $2 million (
