The First Step to Shaping a Career

It’s the first day of the Ravi’s last semester in engineering. Along with managing his journal submissions, prepping for viva and working on his final year project, a lot of other things are also playing on Ravi’s mind. Usually, by the 6th semester of an engineering degree course, MNCs and Indian companies start making a beeline for colleges for campus placements. But the last

couple of years have been different. The number of companies coming in with employment offers has dropped alarmingly. So now, Ravi has to worry about his future even if he successfully completes his engineering degree. After all, finding a job in today’s market for a fresh graduate is an uphill task.

Wouldn’t it be more convenient if there was a way in which Ravi’s skills could be assessed right at the onset of his engineering degree and matched with a prospective employer’s requirements? This would mean the employer would also be invested in Ravi’s progress, while Ravi would have the right motivation to gain the necessary skills to fulfill a role designed for him, while also being secure in his mind about a job. Sounds more like a fairytale, right?

The current industry scenario is such that more and more organizations are shying away from offering campus placements, because of the widening chasm between industry expectations

and student skills levels. With the amount of money a student invests in order to study and secure a professional graduate’s or post graduate’s degree, there is a sense of entitlement to jobs with a high pay package. And when this expectation isn’t fulfilled, frustration is bound to take root. Many students then take the route of higher studies, which they feel is the only way out towards securing a future. The core issue though lies with the syllabus of these professional graduate and post graduate courses not being in tune with industry requirements. Instead of introspecting and understanding what exactly is lacking in oneself, students think it’s best to pile on educational qualifications.

SkillMirror comes in as the solution to these problems. Our college training programs start right at the outset, when a student joins a professional graduate or post graduate educational

course. We assess student skills via an array of research-driven and detailed assessments to determine the industry segments he or she is best suited to. Our experts then chart out a roadmap to decide how much training needs to go into bringing a student to the industry expectation standard. This includes areas like domain knowledge, communication, analytical ability, problem solving, team work, leadership skills and a lot more.

With a clear idea about the final skill set the student will possess at the end of his professional education and training, we then map his profile to employers looking out for similar skills sets. Multiple options are shortlisted, so there is less risk of students missing out on securing the right job. The grooming process and mentoring of students continues till he or she completes his professional education and finds the right employment opportunity. We go a step further and stand by even in the later phases of their careers as mentors and guides.

SkillMirror ensures that prospective employers can be shortlisted right at the beginning of a student’s professional education, opening up multiple doors of opportunity.
