The UM-Huawei Learning Academy is the first of its kind world-class broadband training academy in the University of Malaya, and Malaysia. It is set up under the collaboration of University of Malaya, Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. and Iconix Consulting Sdn. Bhd. to cultivate future talents seed in the high growth broadband industry. Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) had been signed by the three parties to embark on this endeavour to make UM the regional reference model of academia-industry alliance for talents cultivation. This marriage between one of China’s largest and most dynamic industrial icons and Malaysia’s oldest and top-ranked Higher Learning Institution culminates into a few important roles. The Academy will first and foremost be one of the most advanced undergraduate and postgraduate teaching laboratories in UM. It will also be a regional training and certification hub for Huawei’s contractors and sub-contractors. In the next 3 years, the Academy is expected to serve thousands of trainees of different backgrounds and skill sets, adding to the excitement of on-campus learning. In addition, it will add more depth and cover greater breadth, to include the latest technologies in communications. Furthermore, the revenue generated will be re-invested into creating student-led spin off companies, and better design laboratories. In light of the above, it is strongly believed that the Learning Academy will play a pivotal role in producing next generation graduates, engineers, and technicians who will provide us with the best and most advanced telecom services and solutions for years to come.
