CONGRATULATIONS for a Job Well Done go out to the following officers for their exemplary work:
Officer Martin Webster, Central Patrol / Bridgeview
On Jan. 16 while on patrol in Leyden Township, Officer Webster was assigned to a call of a house fire. As the first emergency responder on the scene, Officer Webster
entered the home to ensure it was cleared of people then retrieved a fire extinguisher from his vehicle. He reentered the home twice more in an attempt to extinguish the
fire, each time having to exit due to extensive smoke and was then relieved by the Leyden Fire Department. His work helped keep the residents safe and preserve the
home and property, as the home ultimately was not extensively damaged and the residents were not displaced. Additionally, for his efforts, Officer Webster was hon-
ored by the Leyden Township Board of Trustees with a Special Proclamation “In Recognition of Heroic Actions” during its March board meeting.
Officer William Hoefler, North Patrol / ISP
During the 16 days of March that Officer Hoefler was on duty, he made 14 arrests including, per day, 1 DUI arrest for seven consecutive days; wrote 183 tickets, 26 SP
citations and towed 8 vehicles.
Officer Brian Manthey, North Patrol / ISP
On March 7 while off-duty and at home in the south suburbs, Officer Manthey heard yells from a pond outside his home. When he went outside, he saw two teenaged
girls who had fallen through the ice into the pond and were unable to get out. He and two responding Tinley Park Police Officers worked together to pull both girls to
safety. The girls were ultimately treated and released at a local hospital. Additionally, Officer Manthey received the Tinley Park “Citizens Award” from the Tinley Park
Board of Trustees and Tinley Park Police and Fire on April 2 at a special ceremony where he was honored for his efforts.
Officer Enrique Nieves / North Rolling Meadows
While on patrol in Bridlewood Estates on March 20, Officer Nieves saw two cars parked near an intersection, one empty and one with two men inside. As he drove up
to the vehicles, the passenger exited, got into the empty car and drove off. He followed that car, noticed it had a cracked windshield and executed a traffic stop. The
man told the officer he had been buying hashish from his dealer who was in the first car. When they saw police coming, the dealer gave the man all his drugs, told him
to get out of the car then exited the area. Officer Nieves recovered 25 grams of hashish and a liquid vial of GHB, also known as the date-rape drug. Additional infor-
mation garnered by Officer Nieves resulted in controlled buys involving an additional 17 grams of hashish and a search warrant executed at the home of a target. Officer
Nieves served as a transport vehicle to move any offenders arrested during the search warrant. Although the offender was not home at the time of the search warrant,
Office Nieves noticed the offender in his girlfriend’s car a few blocks away, took him into custody and turned him over to the Narcotics Team for further investigation.
