•THE “FINAL SOLUTION”

Men and women were separated. Pregnant women, elderly, and children usually didn’t make it.

Nazi’s decided if the people were healthy enough for labor.

People chosen to die were sent to Gas Chambers “showers”.

Chambers were filled with carbon monoxide and “Zyklon B”. ( a poisonous insecticide used to kill rats&insects).

Bodies were burned in ovens.

At the Killing Centers

Ghettos are marked off sections of towns and cities where Jews were forced to live in.

Warsaw, the biggest Ghetto, had half a million Jews living in.

Nazis forced the Jews living in these ghettos to live very poorly.

Ghettos in Poland

- Living in the ghettos was unbearable.

-Many Jews died of starvation, contagious diseases, or freezing to death.

-Small apartments would have several families living in it.

-Education wasn’t allowed in the ghettos.

Life in the Ghettos

Mobile Killing Squads

-Germans turned from forced emigration and imprisonment of jews to mass murder.-*Einsarzgruppen, action squads made up nazi units, killed any jews they could find in occupied Soviet Territory.-Victims were forced to surrender valuables and clothing which were distributed to local collaborators in Germany.-Victims were sent to open fields where they’d be gassed in gas vans and fumped in mass graves.- September 21,1941, Jewish new year- the killing squad gathered 4,000 jews and held them for two days without food and water. They were lined up and shot to death.

-Fifteen high-ranking Nazi party and german government leaders gathered on January 20th, 1942 at the vila known as Wannsee.

-The “final solution” was code for the planned genocide of all European jews.

-The code was a term used to hid their policy of mass murder from the world.

-The Wannsee Conference was where the plan was revealed to non-nazi leaders who would help transport jews to the extermination camps

in Poland.

The Wannsee Conference and the

“Final Solution”

-The largest camp established by the Germans.

-Included a concentration extermination and a forced labor camp. It was located in Poland.

-The people had their hair shaved off and their registration number tattooed on their arms.

-Jews had no change of clothing.

-Inmates were always hungry. Food consisted of watery soup made with rotten vegetables.

Auschwitz

-Victims were deported from ghettos.

-While masses of Jews were being transported victims in Poland were already being imprisoned and put into labor.

-Jews were “deported” by trains or trucks to six camps all located in Poland.

-Nazi’s then changed to gassing instead of shooting.

*saw it as a more “efficient” than shooting.
