Welcome and Announcements

+Silent PrayerAlmighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

I bind this day to me foreverBy power of faith, Christ’s incarnation; His baptism in the Jordan river,His death on Cross for my salvation; His bursting from the spicèd tomb,His riding up the heavenly way,His coming at the day of doomI bind unto myself today.

I bind unto myself the powerOf the great love of cherubim; The sweet ‘Well done’ in judgment hour,The service of the seraphim,

Confessors’ faith, Apostles’ word,The Patriarchs’ prayers, the prophets’ scrolls,All good deeds done unto the LordAnd purity of ransomed souls.

I bind unto myself todayThe beauty of the star lit heaven,The glorious sun’s life giving ray,The brightness of the moon at even,Theflashingofthelightningfree,The whirling wind’s tempestuous shocks,The stable earth, the deep salt seaAround the old undying rocks.

I bind unto myself todayThe power of God to hold and lead,His eye to watch, His might to stay,His ear to hearken to my need. The wisdom of my God to teach,His hand to guide, His shield to ward; The word of God to give me speech,His heavenly host to be my guard.

Christ be with me, Christ within me,Christ behind me, Christ before me,Christ beside me, Christ to win me,Christ to comfort and restore me,Christ beneath me, Christ above me,Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,Christ in hearts of all that love me,Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

The Lord CLeanses Us

+Confession of SinSilent PrayerCorporate PrayerO most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ; Who pardons all such as truly repent and turn to you; we humbly confess our sins and implore your mercy. We have not loved you with a pure heart fervently; neither have we loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have not done justly, nor loved mercy, nor walked humbly with you, our God. Have mercy upon us, O Lord, according to your loving-kindness; according to the multitude of your tender mercies, blot out our iniquity. Create in us a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within us. Cast us not away from your presence; and take not your Holy Spirit from us. Restore unto us the joy of your salvation; and uphold us with your free Spirit. Amen.

Declaration of PardonAfter this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?” I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

“Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”Revelation 7:9-10, 13-17 (ESV)

The Lord Converses wiTh Us

*Congregational Petitions and the Lord’s PrayerOur Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV)

Scripture Lesson John 19:23-37 (ESV)

23 WhenthesoldiershadcrucifiedJesus, theytookhisgarmentsanddividedtheminto four parts, one part for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom, 24 so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it,butcastlotsforittoseewhoseitshallbe.”ThiswastofulfilltheScripturewhichsays,

“They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.”

So the soldiers did these things, 25 but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” 27 Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.

28 Afterthis,Jesus, knowingthatallwasnowfinished, said(tofulfilltheScripture),“Ithirst.” 29 A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, hesaid,“Itisfinished,”andhebowedhisheadandgaveuphisspirit.

31 Since it was the day of Preparation, and so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. 32 So the soldiers came and brokethelegsofthefirst, andoftheotherwhohadbeencrucifiedwithhim. 33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. 35 He who saw it has borne witness—his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth—that you also may believe. 36 For these things took place that theScripturemightbefulfilled:“Notoneofhisboneswillbebroken.” 37 And again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they have pierced.”

The Lord’s Supper

Procedure• A deacon will release each section. The order will generally be the balcony, DeSoto

Hall, andthenthemainfloorstartingintheback.• There will be two lines, with congregants entering via the inside aisle and returning

to their seats via the outside aisles. • Please try to maintain distance as you are able.• There is a choice of wine or grape juice. Gluten-free bread is available and marked

with “GF” on the top of the bread container.• Take the elements back to your seats and consume them there. • There will be a trash can to throw out your serving cups as you exit the service. • The mobility impaired will be served in their seats after the line ends.

You are welcome to participate in the Lord’s Supper if you are a baptized Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ, and a faithful member or adherent of this or some other congregation, recognized as belonging to the fellowship of Christian believers. If this does not describe you, we are glad you are here and commend to you this prayer for your use during the time of the Lord’s Supper.

Lord Jesus, you say that you and you alone are the way, the truth, and the life. You welcome all who are weary and burdened to come to you and promise to give them rest. You also say that those who come to you must be prepared to follow you, even at great cost. Help me, Lord Jesus, to believe what you say and to resolve to follow you whatever the cost. There are reasons enough for me to come to you. I admit that I am asinner, moresinfulthanIeverdaredtoadmit.ButinyouIfindagreaterlovethanIever dared hope for. Thank you for your suffering and death in the place of sinners to pay their debt. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and confess you, Jesus Christ, as my Savior and my Lord. Amen.

Easter Invitations AvailableWhileourworshipservicesarealwaysfocusedchieflyonourworshipofGod,asthepeopleofGod, we also hope that any worship service here at Faith would be hospitable and accessible to non-Christian friends and neighbors that the Lord may give you an opportunity to invite. That said, we know that Easter Sunday is a time when even more unchurched people tend to be open to attending a church service, and it has been our custom for years to make our morning Easter services especially accessible to non-Christians and the unchurched. For those reasons, we especially encourage you to consider inviting your friends and neighbors to church on Easter, and to pray that the Lord would make them willing to come. We have made invitations to the service available in the narthex if that would be a helpful resource for you.

MusiciansOur thanks to members of the FPC choir for their contribution to our worship this morning.
