Keeping Pace With AIDS

On Thursday Aug. 18, the StepAbove team (Mena,

Jon and I) traveled out to Pottstown, PA to LEAP Camp

at the Olivet Boys and Girls Club Campgrounds. The camp

takes teens into the woods every year for a week or so to

surround them with fresh perspective, positive

influence, to infuse them with personal inspiration, motivate them to strive and persist, and

give them direction.

Each time I speak or perform

for teens, it reinforces the WHY at the core of WHAT

motivates me “for the future’s future” This experience was no exception. Performing/speaking for teens is one

thing, but it’s a whole other thing interacting with them afterwards; listening to their

aspirations and goals, and listening to the stories about what they’re going through, and what they’re faced with.

It truly is an exchange of energy: the energy I give

speaking/performing, and the energy they give by

participating and interacting.

I appreciate that I have the opportunity to do this, and I

can’t/won’t take it for granted.

BIG shout out to CoolSpeak for the opportunity to work

with them, and for offering us a platform to display and

develop our talents!

Attention all brothers of all generations

The NJ Alumni Chapter is currently recruiting players to represent LSU Gridiron at the 2012 Snow Bowl Flag Football Tournament to benefit the Special Olympics.

The Tournament is played in Giants Stadium. (Yes, you heard correctly. You will play on the same field as the New York Giants, Sideline to Sideline not the 100%)

This is a serious recruiting and a full tryout will be required. All serious considerations should reply to this email or contact any NJ Alumni Chapter e-board member. Captains will be assigned upon completion

of recruitment. See link below for more details.

MENA BADROS TO HEADLINE Student Leadership Series in Cleveland

USHLI, the nation's premier organization training 21st century leaders, is bringing its Student Leadership Series to over 1,000 high school students in Cleveland on Friday, November 18.  The event will be held at Lincoln West High School.

BROTHER SPOTLIGHT: MENA BADROS

Mena Badros, one of the top motivational speakers in the CoolSpeak organization, will be the keynote speaker at the opening session on Friday morning. He has addressed thousands of students throughout the nation.

In addition to hearing a top motivational speaker, students will attend workshops on what they need to know about post-secondary education or training, nutrition and healthy living, leadership development, overcoming challenges to academic success, and financial aid/literacy.  They will also have the opportunity to visit with recruiters representing vocational, technical, community college, and 4-year academic institutions in the immediate vicinity and branches of the military.  Students will receive a CD containing a list of scholarships available to all students whether they are citizens, legal residents, or undocumented.  This event will serve to ensure that high school students begin to envision and understand the process and requirements for pursuing the kind of post-secondary education of their choice.

For more information contact Adrian Calderon at (312) 427-8683 or [email protected].

1. The Qasid Chapter of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. hosted UGA's 5th Annual Stroll Competition, The Showdown V on October 22nd 2011.  The Showdown has been a great success over the past 5 years having brothers and sisters come from ALL over the country just to view this event in Georgia.  Since our philanthropy is HIV/Aids awareness and research, we would like to help the cause by donating parts of the profit made from this show to the local AIDS Athens organization.  AIDS Athens is a local non-profit organization that helps spread the word about HIV/AIDS around Athens GA including but not limited to handing out contraceptives, organizing events to teach about AIDS, and providing HIV test.

Tell everyone about your chapter’s upcoming events!
