(StatusofSFF-LDprojectsunderMPTFFunding)

On October 29 and November 9, 2017 – the Special Financing Facility for LocalDevelopmentof theMinisterofFinanceof theFGShasawardedcontracts to two localcontractorsfortheconstructionofDistrictAdministrationOfficewithannexedDistrictCourthouse in Bandiradlay District of Mudug region (Galmudug State) and DistrictAdministrationOfficeinNorthGallkaioofMudugregion(PuntlandState).TheobjectiveofSFF-LDprojectistosupporttheconstructionandreconstructionofnewanddamaged infrastructure for localservicedelivery in targetedareasofSomaliaandsupports thedevelopmentofpublic investmentmanagement functions.The1991civilwar had a damaging consequence on infrastructure and the delivery of crucialgovernmentservicesasmostofthepublicfacilitiesweredestroyed.Asthecivilwarprolonged,alargepopulationsettledinBandiradlaydistrict.Therefore,to have a District Administration Office constructed for the first time will have anessentialimpactonthedeliveryofmuchneededpublicservicestolocalcommunityandisasignofgovernmentpresence.TheDistrictofBandiradlaylocated60kmfromAdado,theinterimcapitalofGalmdudugStateand70kmsouthwestofGalkaiodistrict.During20th to22ndofNovember2017,a teamledbytheDeputyMinisterofFinance,H.E.AbdullahiSheikhAliincludingSFF-LDPIUteamtravelledtoBandiradlayandNorthGalkaio districts. High-level officials from Galmudug and Puntland states andrepresentativesfromrespectivelocalcommunitiesconsistingofwomengroups,elders,businessgroupsandyouthswelcomedthedelegatesfromtheMinistryofFinanceoftheFGS.

Pictures2&3ConstructionsiteofBandiradlayDistrictProjectOn theoccasion,H.E.Abdullahi SheikhAli,DeputyMinisterof Financehas stated thatwith successful implementation of the construction of Bandiradlay and GalkaioNorthdistrictofficeswill increasethechanceofattractingpotential fundingfordevelopmentprojects.Moreover,theDeputyMinisterstronglyurgedthecontractorsofbothprojectstoadheretosetquality,deliverontimeandwithinthescope.During the launcheventofGalkaioNorthDistrict, theMayorof thedistrict,MahamudYasiin Ahmed and the Governor of Mudug (Puntland), Hassan Mohamed Khalifparticipated in the event. Mahamud Yasiin Ahmed, the Mayor of Galkaio Northexpressedhis joyandhappinessof the fact that the jointlyprioritizedprojectby local

community and district officials is actually being implemented. He noted that hisadministrationisreadytoextendahelpinghandtothecontractorfortheconstructionofDistrictAdministrationOfficeofGalkaioNorth(MudugofPuntland)tobecompletedsuccessfully.
