Facilities Management2017 Summer Project Map

Facilities recently published its 2017 summer project map. The map highlights 116 projects that will begin or will be completed during the summer semester.

These projects range in scope from small repairs and renovations to major construction projects, and for a wide variety of clients ranging from the Harbert College of Business to Campus Safety to Athletics. In addition to marking construction and project zones, the map includes potential road impacts and closures.

“The summer of 2017 will be one of the most active construction periods in recent memory on Auburn’s campus,” said Scott Fuller, executive director of Design and Construction. “The summer project map allows our campus and community to see the magnitude of this summer’s construction workload, what areas are impacted, and also enhance coordination between ongoing projects and events such as Camp War Eagle and summer youth programs.”

Included in the map are 53 summer critical projects, which must be completed in order to meet major project academic milestones, such as the Mell Classroom Building and the new School of Nursing facility.

Other projects are being worked on during the summer semester in order to reduce the impact of construction on students and classes. This list includes renovations to rooms in the Chemistry Building that will serve as collaborative work spaces, renovations to rooms in Spidle Hall to create new studio space, and new furnishings for select university computer labs in Haley Center.

“Our goal is to meet our clients construction, renovation and repair needs while minimizing the impact on Auburn University students, faculty and staff,” said Dan King, associate vice president of Facilities Management. “The summer is a great time to get much of this work done, since the campus is less populated.”

Facilities Quality Control Inspectors

Congratulations to Auburn University 2017 Student Employee of the Year

nominee, Lindsay Souders!

Emmitt Kelley worked in the Paint Shop and was a Facilities employee for almost 16 years.

Lindsay is a student worker in Waste Reduction and Recycling.

Congratulations to Emmitt Kelley on his

retirement!

Facility Operations has two internal interim quality control inspectors that inspect a combined 4.4 million square feet of campus facilities each month — Melissa Newton, Landscape Services, and TJ Newman, Asbestos Shop. Melissa Newton supports Vic Walker, manager of In-House Custodial. She inspects buildings cleaned by in-house custodial teams, and covers an estimated 1 million square feet each month. TJ is primarily responsible for

approximately 118 Contract Services inspections each month, covering just under 3.4 million square feet. In addition to conducting independent inspections, TJ interfaces with our campus clients on behalf of Contract Services to ensure their satisfaction. Additionally, Facilities teams with GCA Services quality control inspectors to perform joint checks of buildings serviced by GCA.
