Beginning with the first check- ins in 2003 to the GMAO source control system, a “tree” of branches grows as more directories (stems) and files (leaves) are added. This componentized design is based on the Earth System Modeling Framework (ESMF). View the animation at https://gmao.gsfc.nasa.gov/animations/GEOS_AGCM_evolution.mp4

The Evolution and Anatomy of the GEOS Atmospheric Model

This image is a frame taken from an animation depicting the evolution of the Goddard Earth Observing System (GEOS) Atmospheric Global Climate Model (AGCM) source code over time using the Gourcevisualization software package. Beginning with the first check-ins in 2003 to the GMAO source control system, a “tree” of branches grows as more directories (stems) and files (leaves) are added.
