Hydrocarbon formed when dead sea
organisms (plankton/algae) are buried under
sedimentary rock, exposed to intense
heat/pressure.
Key Properties:
•API Gravity – heavy (< 30) or light (> 30) % of
the hydrocarbon molecule in part determines
value $.
•Sulfur Content – Sweet (<0.5%) or Sour
(>0.5%, typically over (1.0% - 2.5% range),
determines ease of refinery processes or
potential for corrosion, hence effects the value
of the barrel.
Midstream – Gathering/Processing
• Cushing, OK holds approx. 12% of USA
crude oil supply, or 80 million barrels
within 14 terminals.
• WTI (West Texas Intermediate) is the
USA benchmark traded crude vs.. Brent
from the North Sea.
Midstream – Gathering/Processing
•
Midstream – Gathering/Processing
• Lease Truck = 160,000 gallons or (38 barrels) • Unit Train = 110/120 rail cars or 425 trucks • Domestic Barge = 35,000 barrels (35 mb) • Foreign Crude Ship = 450,000 barrels (450 mb)
