• Egypt at this time was looked at as a place of refuge

• YHWH used Egypt as a refuge and fulcrum point for Israel.

• Then, hundreds of years later, while the Israelites are still in Egypt, Moses is born and YHWH uses Egypt against Israel to move them toward their destiny.

• Egypt started off being a place of food and rest and ended up being a place of bondage, starvation and slavery.

• In 605 BCE Necho of Egypt was defeated by Nebuchadnezzar at the battle of Carchemish, outside of Egypt.

• This date becomes the pivitol date for the prophecy of Daniel chapter 4.

• 567 BC, he again defeats Egypt• 598 BC, he takes Jerusalem and deports

many Jews• 586 BC, he destroys the Temple • After 70 years of Captivity, King Cyrus

became king of Babylon and let the Jews go back to Jerusalem.

• 525 BC, Cyrus’ son Cambyses defeated Egypt.

• The rulership of King Cyrus would be pivotal in understanding the prophecy of Dan 9 concerning the first coming of the Messiah.

• 332 BC, Alexander the Great conquers Egypt

• 31 BC, Egypt comes under Roman rule• 642 AD, Arab conquest of Egypt• 969 Cairo becomes capital• 1517 AD- absorbed into Ottoman Empire• 1859-1866- Suez canal is built, which

becomes the most important trade canal in the world connecting the East and the West.

• 1882 - British troops take control of Egypt. • 1914 - Egypt becomes a British

protectorate. • 1922 - Fu'ad I becomes King of Egypt and

Egypt gains its independence. • 1928- Muslim Brotherhood is formed

• 1948 - Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Syria attack the new state of Israel.

• 1953 June - Egypt is declared a Republic• 1956 July - Nasser nationalizes the Suez

United Arab Republic (UAR) in the first step of their aim for Arab unity.

• 1961 - Syria withdraws from the union with Egypt but Egypt remains known as the UAR.

• 1967 June - Six-Day War in which Israel defeats forces of Egypt, Jordan and Syria. Israel takes control of Sinai, the Golan Heights, the Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

• 1971 - Treaty of Friendship between Egypt and the Soviet Union is signed.

• 1971 - Egypt's new constitution is introduced and the country is renamed the Arab Republic of Egypt.

• 1973 October - Egypt and Syria go to war with Israel during Israel's celebration of Yom Kippur to reclaim the land they lost in 1967. Egypt begins negotiations for the return of Sinai after the war.

• 1978 September - Camp David Accords for peace with Israel are signed.

• 1979 March - The peace treaty between Egypt and Israel is signed. Egypt is then condemned by other Arab nations and excluded from the Arab League.

• 1981– A war al-Sadat is assassinated by Jihad members.

• 1981 - A National Referendum approves Husni Mubarak as the new president.

• 1989 Egypt rejoins the Arab League.• 2005 - Parliamentary polls end with

clashes between police and supporters of the opposition Muslim Brotherhood. The National Democratic Party and its allies retain their large parliamentary majority. Muslim Brotherhood supporters, elected as independents, win a record 20% of seats.

• 2006 August - Egypt praises the way the guerrilla group Hezbollah held out in the war with Israel in Lebanon after earlier questioning its judgment.

• 2008 April - Military courts sentence 25 leading Muslim Brotherhood members to jail terms in crackdown targeting the organization's funding. More than 800 arrested over a month. Brotherhood boycotted municipal elections after only 20 candidates allowed to stand.

• 2009 June - US President Barack Obama makes key speech in Cairo calling for a new beginning between the United States and the Muslim world.

• For the first time ever, the Muslim Brotherhood was invited to attend speech. They have been banned up until then from any part of the political process.

• 2010 June - Muslim Brotherhood fails to win any seats in elections…alleges vote was rigged.

• 2010 November- Muslim Brotherhood fails to win a single seat, though it held a fifth of the places in the last parliament.

• 2011 January- over a million protestors force President Mubarek to step down.

• Mubarek and his government have been the sole stumbling block for the Muslim brotherhood in the political process.

• Elections are in September.

overturn the Israeli/Egyptian agreement of 1979 achieved

under Anwar Sadat.

The claim comes amid charges from Cairo that the Obama administration has been encouraging the protests rocking Egypt and targeting the rule of Mubarak, a key U.S. ally in the Middle East.
