1. Bring printed copies of the petition to your school, religious organization, youth group, or community event.

2. Connect with a teacher, principal, guidance counselor, or other trusted adult to determine how to encourage people to sign it.

3. Establish when, where, and how the petition will be available. • Assign who will be responsible for monitoring signatures, answering questions, etc. This could be a student, group of students, or a combination of students and adults.

• Have the petition available in a public space.

• Determine when the petition will be available.

4. Promote this activity: • Before the event: - Create flyers and post them in the school entrance and main office, hallways, bathrooms, lunch rooms, locker rooms—anywhere students would be likely to see them and the school allows postings.

- Read morning announcements using the text on page two of this guide.

- Get support from other students who want to help.

• Day of event: - Offer small incentives, such as gum or candy, to everyone who signs. - Create a poster that can be placed at the signing table or on the wall.
