Have you ever wanted to be a part of something big? Some-thing that you can be proud of? Something... world changing? The Eliminate Project is just that. Hey WIUM Key Clubbers!

With New Years Day soon to be upon us, I have been thinking a lot about what I want my resolution for 2013 to be. In years past, I’ve never stuck with the resolutions I have made for my-self, so this year I decided that I am going to do something for others. My New Year’s resolution is to raise $750 for the Elimi-nate Project on my own to help WIUM go above and beyond it’s goal of $25,000 for this year. In 2013, don’t lurk in the shadows, as Governor Sam said, be a light, and be a part of something big-ger. Make that difference in 2013.

Check out this girl’s passion for the Eliminate Project! For Lieutenant Governor Julie Schweiss’ 18th birthday, instead of receiving presents, she asked for people to donate money to the Eliminate Project. She started the ball rolling when she created an event on Facebook and invited 337 people, and asked them to share the page with their friends as well. Over the course of 30 days (and still counting!) she raised $690.75 with about 60-70 people donating overall! Its absolutely incredible to see Julie’s family, friends, and local Kiwanians all come together to help her have such a memorable birthday by donating to the Eliminate Project. When I asked Julie what it was like to make such a huge difference she said “It feels so awesome, and I'm very excited to send in the money! As I was fundraising, I was thinking about how we all get material items for our birthdays. Those items are usually things we want and don't

necessarily need. Yet a lot of mothers in this world can't even afford the $1.80 vaccine to save themselves and their children from MNT. That breaks my heart. So knowing that I was able to save 380+ lives from this deadly disease feels very rewarding, and it feels amazing to make a difference! I hope that my successful fundraising efforts can inspire others to do this fundraiser for their birthdays, or any oth-er MNT fundraisers for that matter.”

Unless someone like you cares a whole lot, it’s not going to get better, it’s not. Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to Elimi-nate Maternal & Neonatal Tetanus (MNT), a disease that infects moth-ers and all of her babies. Attend the Eliminate Workshop at District Con-vention in March to learn what

MNT is, and what you can do to help just by donating $1.80.
