From our Pastor…

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

I’ve said it before, but it’s essential, so I’ll say it again: Fathers, you play a most important part in the formation of your children. "Research shows that when a father practices his faith, his children are far more likely to remain practicing Catholics" (Archbishop Wil-liam Lori). "In short, if a father does not go to church, no matter how faithful his wife’s devotions, only one child in 50 will become a regular worshipper. If a father does go regularly, regardless of the practice of the mother, between two-thirds and three-quarters of their children will become church goers (regular and irregular). If a father goes but irregularly to church, regardless of his wife’s devotion, between a half and two-thirds of their offspring will find themselves coming to church regularly or occasionally" (Robbie Low, Touchstone.com).

BLESSING OF FATHERS God and Father of all creation, we come before you today with humble hearts. You are our model of a loving father. When we fail and fall short of your expectations, you are always there at the end of the day with open arms, ready to heal the cuts and scrapes of the day and to encourage us to try again and not to give up. We hold up these men in our midst who act in the world as fathers to their children or models of fathers for others. Bless them in their moments of doubt and frustration with their children. Give them warm and open hearts to forgive failures. Provide them with the words needed for encouragement and perseverance. We ask all this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
