The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is anindependent community body set up by the european union to addresseurope's innovation gap. by investing in the eit, europe invests in the talent oftomorrow, who will not only create new start-ups, but will also contribute toinnovation in existing companies, thus becomes a source for growth. theinstitution’s headquarter is located in budapest. its budget reached up to eur 300 million for the period 2009-2013, and is expected to reach up to eur 2,7 billion in 2014-2020. knowledge and innovation communities (kics)put the innovation web into practice, through them eit gathers the bestuniversities, research centres and most important companies to work together.building upon existing european excellence centres, eit proposes a newapproach to innovation in europe, boosting the process from idea to product,from lab to market and from student to entrepreneur.

co-location centres around europeeach of the eit kics operates across a limited number of hubs called ‘co-locationcentres’. eit ict labs builds upon nodes (berlin, eindhoven, helsinki, london, Paris,stockholm and trento), associate Partners (budapest, Madrid) and satellites eachhaving a unique profile, where activities are based on selected innovation areas, calledaction lines. in every node there is a physical co-location centre, where students,researchers and business partners come together to share and create ideas, tocombine their competences and skills developed in different areas of specialisation.the co-location centre is the place for you to network both in person and throughvideo technology, but also for other extra curriculum activities and events. it is theplace that provides opportunities for future career contacts as well.

EIT ICT Labs applies a catalyst-carrier model in its investment model gearedtowards innovationthe value-adding actions (the catalysts) are applied on complementary activities andbusiness programs. each catalyst is aimed to produce a specific innovation (a serviceor a product) as its output on top of the carriers, which are typically research,educational or business programs. therefore, eit funding (necessarily the catalyst) isavailable in a ratio of 1:3 (eit funding 25%, non-eit funding 75%) - the non-eit funding(carrier) may come from different sources, e.g. kic partners' own resource, other eufunding, national/regional funding and private funding (e.g. donations).

a co-location centre épületeiben találkozhatnak diákok, kutatók és üzleti part-nerek, megoszthatják ötleteiket, vagy közösen alkothatnak újakat, egyesítve eltérőterületekre specializálódott kompetenciáikat és képességeiket. az akadémiai-ipariegyüttműködési központ az a hely, ahol személyesen, vagy a videotechnológiasegítségével lehet kapcsolatokat építeni, részt venni az itt zajló rendezvényeken,

eseményeken, vagykésőbbi karrierünket elő-készíteni.

Az EIT ICT Labs a ’catalyst-carrier’ finanszíro-zási modell alkalmazásával mozdítja elő az innovációt:

a hozzáadott értéket jelentő (catalyst) tevékenységek már létező kiegészítő tevékeny-ségekre és üzleti programokra épülnek. Minden katalizátor célja egy speciális innováció(egy szolgáltatás vagy egy termék) létrehozása egy carrier projekt eredményeire építve,mely projektek jellemzően kutatási, oktatási vagy üzleti alapprogramok. Így az eit tá-mogatás (a katalizátor) 1:3 arányban biztosítja a program költségvetését (25% eit támo-gatás és 75% nem-eit támogatás). a nem eit támogatás (carrier) különböző forrásokbólszármazhat, például a kic partnerek saját forrásaiból, más eu támogatásból, nemzetivagy regionális támogatásból, illetve magánfinanszírozásból (adományok) is.

the budapest associate Partner Group's mission is to give a boost to thedevelopment of an innovative ict ecosystem in hungary and in central and easterneurope. the eit ict labs budapest associate Partner Group is a consortium of twolocal universities, namely, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) and BudapestUniversity of Technology and Economics (BME) and their leading industrialpartners in informatics and telecommunications (consortial partners: EricssonHungary, Magyar Telekom; cooperating partners: Nokia Networks). theassociate Partner Group is supported by the cooperation of MTA-SZTAKI(institute for computer science and control of the hungarian academy of sciences)and ELTE-Soft Nonprofit Ltd. the consortium is led by elte.

a unique feature of the eit ict labs budapest associate Partner Group is that itbuilds on the innovative potential of the dynamically developing hungarian sMesand start-ups. to help them maximize their potential, it has created a platform ofHungarian SMEs, and reinforced its innovation management and businessaccelerator activities.

two partner universities have a two-decade best practice of applying theknowledge triangle model (research projects initiated by the industrial partners ofthe universities).

in 2012, the hungarian state, more particularly, the national developmentagency and the research and technology innovation Fund, issued a call forpromoting hungary’s participation in the eit kics. in this call for proposals, the eitict labs budapest associate Partner Group received HUF 1 billion fundingfrom the State. the funding has been used to set up the local co-locationcentre and served as a carrier for the research projects complementing the eitfunded catalyst projects.

the clc of the eit ict labs budapest associate Partner Group is located ininfopark, among some of the biggest telecommunication and ict companies inbudapest and the two participating universities: Faculty of informatics (elte) andFaculty of engineering (bMe).

Az EIT ICT Labs MagyarNemzeti Társult Csomópont azegyetlen EIT ICT Labs (társult) part-ner a közép-kelet európai régióban.

a budapesti szervezet célja, hogy felgyorsítsa a magyaror-szági és közép-kelet európai innovatív infokommunikációs környezet fej-lesztését. az eit ict labs Magyar nemzeti társult csomópont két helyi egyetem,név szerint az Eötvös Loránd Tudományegyetem (ELTE) és a Budapesti Mű-szaki és Gazdaságtudományi Egyetem (BME), valamint vezető informatikaiés telekommunikációs ipari partnereik együttműködése (konzorciumi partnereiaz Ericsson Hungary, a Magyar Telekom; együttműködő partnere pedig aNokia Networks). a csomópontot az MTA-SZTAKI és az ELTE-Soft NonprofitKft. is támogatja. a konzorcium vezetője az elte.

az eit ict labs Magyar nemzeti társult csomópont egyedülállósága, hogy épít adinamikusan fejlődő magyar kis- és középvállalatok, valamint start-upok innovációspotenciáljára. Mindezek maximális sikere érdekében étrehozott egy magyarkis- és középvállalati platformot, illetve felerősítette innovációmenedzs mentés üzleti akcelerátor tevékenységeit is. a két partneregyetem már két évtizedes,jó gyakorlattal rendelkezik a tudásháromszög modell alkalmazásában (példa erre,hogy a diákok már az egyetemeken ipari partnerek által kezdeményezett hosszú-távú kutatási projektekben vesznek részt).

2012-ben a magyar állam – pontosabban, az akkori nemzeti Fejlesztési ügynökségés a kutatási és technológiai Fejlesztési alap – pályázatot írt ki Magyarország eitkic-ekben való részvételére. ennek a pályázatnak a keretében az eit ict labs Magyar nemzeti társult csomópont 1 milliárd forint támogatásban részesültaz államtól. a támogatásból valósult meg a helyi clc, illetve biztosította számos,az eit által támogatott katalizátor kutatási projekt kiegészítéseként azok alap-, azazcarrier finanszírozását.

az eit ict labs Magyar nemzeti társult csomópont clc épülete az infoparkbanhelyezkedik el, budapest néhány nagy telekommunikációs és ikt cégének és akét résztvevő egyetem (az elte informatikai kara és a bMe Villamos Mérnöki kara)épületeinek szomszédságában.

Meeting placeour co-location centre is situated close to the heart of the city, in infopark, which has a livelyatmosphere, and where the universities are co-located with their industrial partners - thus students havethe opportunity to meet entrepreneurs, researchers and business partners, alike.

the budapest clc has a great significance as a regional hotspot and community space. our institute in aseparate building hosts active meetings, workshops, educational courses, and provides flexibleworkspots for the benefit of our international students and partners. We aim to attract talents andinvestments to create new businesses, jobs and societal impacts, as well as to provide this meeting placeand our european network support for local start-ups.

We have a central open space comfortable up to 50 people, and we are equipped with rooms for smallermeetings of circa 20 participants. We can also provide smaller offices upon request.

Activities

elte and bMe, as the two strongest hungarian universities in ict, give a significant cohort of students tothe EIT ICT Labs Master School – three technical Programs are available in budapest since 2012. afterstockholm and berlin, the Master school’s third international kick-off opening ceremony was held in budapest in 2014.

our Budapest Doctoral Training Centre has also been active since 2012 providing a uniqueopportunity for excellent young Phd students in communication software and system performance - adoctoral education that provides full integration of both technical and business aspects of ict.

a robust r&d carrier program with nearly 20 ICT research projects were running between January2013 and June 2014 with a total budget of huF 1 billion, corresponding to the thematic innovationareas of eit ict labs. the funding supported the set-up of the local co-location centre.

eit ict labs budapest associate Partner Group has been playing a very active role in the outreachProgram, mainly in Central and Eastern Europe. in the framework of the programme, eit ict labsdevelops partnerships with those member states (called "X-europe" countries) of the european union

that are not directly connected to the eit ict labs, or in general to the eit network. theprogramme aims to establish connections with universities, research institutions and companies ofthese countries, to activate start-ups and to help local researchers, professors and students to becomepartners of international eit ict labs projects.

our contest organized together with MMcluster for central-eastern european start-ups, called brasstacks, raisednumerous applications from five countries, and several start-ups participated in the three-day training program indecember 2013 and in november 2014. Further start-up accelerating events, like hackatons, are organized frequently inoutreach countries of eit ict labs, i.e. romania, slovakia, slovenia.

Találkozóhelya mi központunk a belvároshoz közel, az infoparkban helyezkedik el, ami egynyüzsgő atmoszférájú helyszín az egyetemi épületek és az ipari partnerek irodáiközött, így a hallgatók nap mint nap találkozhatnak vállalkozókkal, kutatókkal ésüzleti partnerekkel egyaránt.

a budapesti clc meghatározó szerepet játszik mint regionális központ és közösségitér, aktív találkozási pont és munkahely. intézményünk egy önálló épületben helyez-kedik el a két részt vevő egyetem szomszédságában, ahol rendszeresen tartunk meg-beszéléseket, workshopokat, oktatási kurzusokat, de ugyanakkor ez egy rugalmasmunkatér is egyben, mind a különböző nemzetiségű diákok, mind pedig partnereinkszámára. célunk a tehetségek és a befektetők megszólítása, új üzletek, álláslehetősé-gek teremtése, társadalmilag meghatározó sikerek elősegítése. ehhez kívánunk hely-színt, a helyi start-upok támogatására pedig európai kapcsolati hálót teremteni.

nyílt tereink alkalmasak 50 fős workshopok, prezentációk és kurzusok megszer-vezésére. emellett kisebb, mintegy 20 férőhelyes termeket, illetve irodai helyeketis tudunk biztosítani.

Programjainka budapesti Magyar nemzeti társult csomópont a többi eit ict labs-hez hason-lóan, aktívan ötvözi a kutatás-fejlesztés-innováció (r&d&i) hármasát a felsőokta-tással valamint az iparral együttműködve.

az elte és a bMe, mint Magyarország két legerősebb informatikai képzését kínálóegyeteme, jelentős számú hallgatót biztosít az EIT ICT Labs mesterképzése szá-mára: 2012-től már 3 szakirány érhető el budapesten. stockholm és berlin után amesterképzés harmadik évnyitó rendezvényét (kick-off ) is itt, budapesten rendez-ték meg 2014-ben.

a Budapesti Doktori Képzési Központ szintén 2012 óta működik, különleges le-hetőséget nyújtva a kiemelkedő képességű Phd hallgatók számára kommunikációs

szoftverés rend-szerműködésszakterületeken. adoktori képzés az ict szak-mai és üzleti aspektusának össz-hangját nyújtja a hallgatók számára.

2013. január és 2014. június között mintegy 20 ICT kutatási projektbevonásával egy intenzív r&d carrier program valósult meg, melynekteljes költségvetése elérte az 1 milliárd forintot, és amely az eit ict labsinnovációs tematikájához illeszkedve jött létre. az eit ict labs Magyarnemzeti társult csomópontja az eltevel, bMevel és a cisco systemskft.-vel együtt közösen nyerte el a kutatási és technológiai Fejlesztésialapon keresztül a magyar állam támogatását, hogy a fent említett pro-jekteket vezesse és létrehozzon egy helyi clc-t.

az eit ict labs Magyar nemzeti társult csomópont meghatározószerepet játszik az ict labs outreach Programjában is főként Közép-és Kelet-Európában. ennek keretében kapcsolatot épít ki olyanuniós országokkal, amelyek nem állnak közvetlen viszonyban az eitict labs, vagy általánosan az eit hálózattal (X-europe országok). azoutreach Program célja, hogy a célországokban segítse a helyi start-upokat, európai dimenziójú tanulási lehetőségeket biztosítson hall-gatóknak és megerősítse a helyi akadémiai és kutató szektort. anépszerűsítő és toborzó programok segítségével felveszi a kapcso-latot helyi egyetemekkel, kutatóintézetekkel, cégekkel, valamint se-gíteni próbál kutatóknak, oktatóknak és diákoknak egyénileg is, hogybekapcsolódhassanak nemzetközi eit ict labs projektekbe

a Mobilitás és Multimédia klaszterrel közösen szervezett, öt-öt or-szág start-upjait vendégül látó, 3 napos képzésünk, a brasstacks szá-mos kezdő vállalkozót szólított meg 2013 decemberében és 2014novemberében. további start-up-okat mozgósító rendezvénye-ket, például hackathonokat szervezünk az eit ict labs outreachcélországaiban, legutóbb például romániában, szlovákiában ésszlovéniában.

education – Preparing the entrepreneurs of the futureEIT supports the creation of tomorrow’s entrepreneurs and promotes areal change of mindset towards an entrepreneurial culture and attitude.

• eit ict labs Master school is one of the largest joint european ventures in highereducation. the institutions involved have developed an agreement to deliver 8 technical Programmes across 21 universities, and the course includes a fullystandardised minor in ‘innovation and entrepreneurship’. students will also benefitfrom a mentoring scheme and an internship at one of the industry partners.

• eit ict labs doctoral school complements the doctoral programs of thepartner universities.

both programs offer business knowledge and entrepreneurial skills, and involveorganizational as well as geographical mobility. students, researchers andacademic staff are equipped with skills for creativity and risk-taking capacity.

A collaboration between the best technical universities in Europe, topEuropean researchers and leading business partners.

eit ict labs Master school offers a two-year program, in which students choosetwo universities in two different european countries to build a curriculum of theirchoice. on the one hand, it aims to provide students sound technical knowledge;on the other hand, it seeks to equipe them with valuable research and business orentrepreneurial skills. Mobility, a mentoring programme and internship at an eitict labs industrial partner, as well as summer schools and other extra-curricularactivities complement their studies. students are expected to use their creativeskills to generate break-through innovations on the global markets.

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) Minorbesides fundamental knowledge on the topics, students learn how to driveinnovations to the market. the Master’s thesis, which has to be prepared incollaboration with a company, needs to include a business plan too for thecommercial exploitation of the researched project. a basic course ininnovation and entrepreneurship and the business development labs courseare vital parts of this module.

1. Service Design and Engineering (SDE)Goals of the program are:• to develop the multidisciplinary technical skills that are needed for designing andbuilding digital, software intensive services based on service-oriented architectures;

• to develop understanding of and ability to analyse the organizational settingsand the user and business requirements, in which the service-based systemsare deployed and used;

• to bridge gap between computer science and software engineering andbetween information technology and information systems.

2nd year in budapest, ELTE: Specialization in Distributed Software Systemsit supports the design, analysis and development of complex distributedtelecommunication services.

2. Security and Privacy (S&P)Goals of the program are:• to develop understanding of concepts and technologies for achieving

confidentiality, integrity, authenticity, and privacy protection for informationprocessed across networks;

• to provide competences in communication, knowledge integration, openinnovation and technology management, from the viewpoints of bothbusiness and technology.

eit ict labs doctoral school on ict innoVationEurope faces great societal challenges and need to educate students withboth excellent basic knowledge in their fields and capability to transformideas into products and services, from the labs to the marketplace, frombeing students to becoming entrepreneurs.

the goal of the eit ict labs doctoral school is to develop the ict innovation concept,through which doctoral candidates can aquire an innovational and entreprenuerial(i&e) mindset. after graduation, these doctors will be commercially aware ict leaders,who understand current and future challenges as well as the opportunities that thesepresent to industry. to achieve this goal, the school organizes I&E education thatcomplements the ordinary doctoral studies of each candidate. 16 universitiessigned the cooperation agreement defining eit ict labs doctoral school on ictinnovation, and budapest universities were among the first ones with a significantnumber of Phd students joining this education.

EIT ICT Labs certificationthose doctoral candidates, who are participating in this programme, will notonly receive their doctoral degree from the university, but also a doctoralschool on ict innovation certificate from eit ict labs.

Success stories of cutting edge student ideas: SongArc: a big app hit songarc, ranked as number one in music games and number six in allgame apps in the Windows Phone store, reached more than 1.5 milliondownloads since its launch in october 2013. one of the developers isadam kapos, a former bsc student of the Faculty of informatics at eötvösloránd university, presently Master student at the eit ict labs Masterschool. the app was finalized with the support (a lot of coaching as wellas 20 000 euros for the development work) of the Finnish app accelerator,appcampus of the helsinki eit ict labs. it was not the first appdeveloped by adam, which has achieved great success; the rum rungame of his team, called turtle Games, received third prize at theMicrosoft imaginecup contest in australia. www.songarc.net

HomeBuddy – the first EIT Awardthe prestigious eit ch.a.n.G.e awards in 2013 went to a hungarian ictlabs Master school student, dorottya Maksay for her sustainable socialenterprise project. it is a simple idea that aims to bring generationscloser together, and creates value for society. it derives from a europeanproblem that older people would like to be socially active, while stu-dents need support to find affordable accommodation. homebuddyprovides social interaction and care for older people living alone bymatching them with students, who need accommodation. students areprovided with virtually free housing, and in return they spend 2-3 hourseach workday by helping their elderly landlords or landladies. this helpcan include anything from cleaning and gardening to taking them tocinema, or introducing them computer science basics. a detailed busi-ness plan was developed, and presented to funders in hungary and thenetherlands.

in line with the main goals of eit ict labs, the budapest associate PartnerGroup aims to foster innovation in the domain of ict research. on top of ther&d&i activities financed by the state and european sources, eit money is spenton bringing the results to the market, thus realizing the innovation cycle.

among others, a research & development programme with nearly 20 ictprojects had been running in 2013 and 2014 at eötvös loránd university(elte), budapest university of technology and economics (bMe) and at thecisco systems ltd. the consortium of the programme had been granted huF1 billion funding by the state (via the research and technological innovationFund) to set up the local co-location centre and to serve as a “carrier” forthese research projects. the themes included smartphone data sharing,digital solutions helping to organise urban mobility in cities, ict solutions forteaching and learning and technologies enabling effective security andprivacy methods. over 200 researchers and 60 students participated in theprogramme coordinated by eit ict labs in budapest.

researchers worked on four main research areas: 1. Solutions for complex infocommunication networks 2. Mobility and the digital cities of the future 3. Human-computer collaboration 4. The security of critical systems

the Faculty of informatics at eötvös loránd university also conducts jointresearch projects with its industrial partners, who offer internships for students.Main research areas are: calculus, numerical mathematics, computer algebrasystems, number theory, programming theory, artificial intelligence,programming languages, abstract algorithms and their applications, databasetechnologies, functional programming, information systems, remote sensingand geolocation, human-computer interaction and augmented reality, robotics,computer architectures, formal methods, software technologies, etc.

our ict research projects are also in line with the eu’s new Programme forresearch and innovation, called h2020 (2014-2020). horizon 2020 is thefinancial instrument implementing the innovation union, a europe 2020flagship initiative aimed at securing europe's global competitiveness.

A kutatásban új termékek, megoldások és alkalmazások fejlesztése a cél.Az EIT ICT Labs kutatók és mérnökök számára nyújt hozzáférést hálóza-tokhoz, gyakorlati, tesztelési környezethez és élő laborokhoz.

A Magyar Nemzeti Társult Csomópont kutatás-fejlesz-tési tevékenysége

az eit ict labs fő céljainak megfelelően a szervezet az informatikai kutatások in-novációs potenciálját kívánja elősegíteni. a központi állami költségvetésből és azeurópai programokból finanszírozott alapkutatások mellett az eit támogatás kife-jezetten az eredmények piacra juttatását segíti elő, így zárva az innovációs kört. azegyik legnagyobb méretű kutatási program során, amely a Magyar nemzeti társultcsomópont szervezésében valósult meg, az elte, a bMe és a cisco systems hun-gary szakértői közel 20 alprojekt keretében dolgoztak új informatikai megoldásokonés kapcsolódó kutatásokon 2013. január és 2014. június között. a kutatási és tech-nológiai innovációs alap (ktia) az eit kic társulásokban való magyar részvételt tá-mogató pályázatán ez a konzorcium mintegy egymilliárd forintos támogatást nyerta magyar államtól, ami további közel 700 millió forint eit és eu forrást jelentett. akutatásban több mint 200 kutató és 60 diák vett részt.

a fejlesztések négy nagy té-makör köré szerveződtek. azokostelefonos tartalommegosztás, a vá-rosi közlekedés szervezését segítő, illetve a legú-jabb oktatási és tanulási módszereket ötvöző informatikaimegoldások, valamint a hatékony védelmi és biztonsági technológiák kidolgozásaegyaránt a kutatási program témái voltak.

kutatásaink amellett, hogy az eit ict labs által meghatározott, kulcsfontosságú tár-sadalmi kihívásokra reagáló innovációs területekhez (az ún. action line irányvona-lakhoz) kapcsolódnak, illeszkednek az unió új, horizont 2020 elnevezésűkutatás-fejlesztési és innovációs politikáját a következő 7 évben, 2014-2020 közöttmeghatározó programjához is. a program, amely minden eddiginél nagyobb, közel79 milliárd eurós költségvetéssel gazdálkodik, a kontinens globális versenyképes-ségének növelését célzó európa 2020 stratégia, „innovatív unió” elnevezésű kiemeltkezdeményezésének egyik alappillére.

az európai innovációs és technológiai intézet (eit) függet-len szervezetének létrehozása egy olyan új, uniós kezde-ményezés, amely kiegészíti a meglévő közösségi, illetvenemzeti politikákat és innovációs kezdeményezéseket a tu-dásháromszög integrálásának támogatása révén. az elsőd-leges cél, hogy a legmagasabb színvonalú felsőoktatási,kutatási és fejlesztési tevékenységek és kiválósági közpon-tok összekapcsolásával járuljon hozzá az unió és a tagálla-mok innovációs kapacitásának fejlesztéséhez. az eitsegítségével az európai unió a holnap tehetségeit támo-gatja, akik a fejlődés forrásaiként nemcsak új, kezdő vállal-kozások alapításában, de már meglévő vállalatokfejlesztésében is aktív szerepet vállalnak majd. a 2009-2013-as periódusban közel 300 millió eurós, a 2014-2020 időszak-ban pedig előreláthatólag 2,7 milliárd eurós költségvetésselműködő intézet központja budapesten található. a szakmaimunka úgynevezett tudás- és innovációs közösségek(Knowledge and Innovation Communities, KIC-ek)keretében valósul meg, amelyek az egyetemek, kutatóin-tézetek és az üzleti szféra autonóm partnerségén alapulóstratégiai innovációs hálózatai. az eit a kic-ek felállításávalaz innovációs tevékenységek menedzsmentjének referen-ciamodelljét szándékozik kialakítani, amely minden eddi-ginél hatékonyabban segíti elő az ötletek termékké válását,a kutatólaboroktól a piacra jutásig tartó folyamatot és a di-ákok vállalkozóvá válását. ennek érdekében az intézet olyanmesterképzéseket és Phd-programokat dolgoz ki, amelyekmagas színvonalukkal és innovatív eredményeikkel az eu-rópai felsőoktatási intézmények élvonalát képviselik, így lét-rehozva az eit „kiválósági védjegyet”.

Hallgatóknak:képzéseinkben az innováció sokoldalúsága mutatkozik meg. a vállalatoknál eltöltött időben lesz lehe-tőséged munka közben tanulni az eit ’cselekedve tanulás’ filozófiája szerint. kiemelkedő, eit által kiadottdiplomával zárod tanulmányaidat.
