Proverb 4:23 - Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Carefully guard your thoughts because they are the source of true life.
– New International Version - Above everything else, guard your heart. It is where your life comes from.
– New Century Version - Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life.
– Why guarding?• Heart is the center of intellect, emotion and
will.• Heart and mind are interchangeable. • It points to soul or personhood• Examples:
– Saul: I Samuel 18:7-9 - 7 And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.
– 8 And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?

whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
– True: opposite of dishonest and lies– Honest: honorable, worthy of respect and
reverence– Just: conformity to God’s standard;
righteous relation between man and man and between God and man
– Pure: not mixed with moral impurity; chaste– Lovely: lovable, beautiful, pleasing,
gracious, promoting peace– Good Report: worth talking about, what is
positive – Virtue: excellence– Praise: praiseworthy
