The position and function of teacher in the classroom in learning English
is much needed to increase student’s motivation in learning English and one of
way is giving reward. The purpose of giving reward is to increase the motivation
in learning English. Some students feel shy if their friends got a reward and he
or she does no, it can increase their motivation in learning English.
The purpose of this research are to find out the effect of giving reward in
motivating students in learning English and to find out factors which support
students motivation of the eighth grade students of SMP NU Putri Nawa Kartika
in the academic year 2013/2014.
Thisresearch is descriptive qualitative. The researcher uses questionnaire
and observation. The questionnaire is given to the students to know the extent to
which reward effect the students’ motivation in learning English. The
observation are to observe and to identity the effect of giving reward and the
factors which support students motivation of the eighth grade students of SMP
NU Putri Nawa Kartika in learning English.
The result of the research shows that : (1) The effects of giving reward
are motivating the students. It couldincrease students motivation in learning
English. Therefore, it could improve the result of their study. Moreover it made
them happy in learning English, so that they were active in learning
English.(2)The factors which support students motivationare the spirit from
themselves and their thought about English. Therefore, students felt happy in
learning English. Beside that, the teacher was kindly, many students absolutly
happy or fun in learning English. As a result, their score was good.
Thus, the researcher suggests that use reward can motivate students in
learning English.

Posisi dan fungsi dari guru di kelas dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris
adalah sangat dibutuhkan untuk meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam
pmbelajaran Inggris dan salah satu cara adalah pemberian reward. Tujuan dari
pemberianreward adalah untuk meningkatkan motivasi dalam pmbelajaran
bahasa Inggris. Beberapa siswa merasa malu jika teman mereka mendapatkan
reward dan dia (laki-laki atau perempuan) tidak, itu dapat meningkatkan
motivasi dalam pmbelajaran bahasa Inggris.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui dampak dari pemberian
reward untuk memotivasi siswa dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris dan untuk
mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mendukung motivasi siswa kelas delapan dari
siswa SMP NU Putri Nawa Kartika tahun akademik 2013/2014.
Penelitian ini adalah penelitian analisis.Peneliti menggunakan angket dan
observasi. Angket ini diberikan kepada siswa untuk mengetahui reward yang
mana yang memberi dampak motivasi siswa dalam pembelajaran Bahasa
Inggris. Observasi itu adalah untuk mengobservasi dan untuk mengidentifikasi
dampak pemberian reward dan faktor-faktor yang mendukung motivasi siswa
SMP NU Putri Nawa Kartika dalam pembelajaranBahasa Inggris.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa:1. Dampak pemberian reward
antara lain : memotivasi siswa, meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam
pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris, meningkatkan hasil nilai dari belajar mereka,
membuat senang dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris, dan membuat aktif dalam
pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. 2.Faktor-faktor yang mendukung motivasi

Siswa antaralain adalah semangat dari diri mereka sendiri dan pemikiran
mereka tentang bahasa Inggris.Oleh karena itu,siswa merasa senang dalam
belajar bahasa Inggris.Selain itu, guru yang ramah, banyak siswa pasti bahagia
atausenang dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Akibatnya, nilai mereka menjadi
bagus.
Dengan demikian, penulis menyarankan bahwa penggunaan reward
dapat memotivasi siswa dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris.
