Attractions: 4 Nevis Range

With skiing up to 1190 metres (3,900 feet) Nevis Range reaches high on to the mountain of Aonach Mor - Scotland's eighth highest - and offers skiing and boarding late into spring. The base of the snowsports area is accessed by the gondola, which is an attraction in its own right, lifting visitors from the car park just above sea level to 650 metres (2,150 feet). Attractions: 4 The remains of the ‘Old Puggy Line’

The Lochaber Narrow Gauge Railway was a 3 ft (914 mm) gauge narrow gauge industrial railway. It was a relatively long line, built for the construction and subsequent maintenance of a 15 miles (24 km) long tunnel from Loch Treig to a factory near Fort William in Scotland. The tunnel was excavated to carry water for the Lochaber hydro-electric power scheme in connection with aluminium production by the British Aluminium Company. 7 Achnacochine Ruins

Impressive old croft ruins – thought locally to be a victim of the highland clearances. Achnacochine translates in Gaelic as ‘field of the disputants’.

Laggan Dam is a dam located on the River Spean south west of Loch Laggan in the Scottish Highlands. The dam is 700 feet (213 metres) long and rises 170 feet (52 metres) above its foundations, and is part of the Lochaber hydro-electric scheme. The structure was built by Balfour Beatty for the British Aluminium Company and construction was finished in 1934.

4 Hillwalking This area of Scotland is well known as a mecca for climbers and walkers. There are many low level forest and open ground walks available, and several Munroes and Corbetts.

The Boathouse restaurant On the shores of Loch Insh, this restaurant was recently voted one of the top five views from any restaurant in Europe. The 100 seater log cabin was recently upgraded and expanded but the original building still forms the main part of the restaurant. It’s a beautiful retreat for a quick bite to eat or an over night stay.
