A Call to Hope
Colossians 1:27 “To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the
glorious riches of this mystery , which is “CHRIST IN YOU , THE HOPE OF GLORY.”
Living a “pahadi life” (life in the hills) taught me to be closely acquainted with the
ways of nature. Trees have always been a part of my life. I have fond memories of
looking trees in various shades across the hills everyday, as I sat in the school cab
looking out of the window. Each season of the year could be made out just by the
colour of the leaves. Spring always brought in a fresh colour of green denoting life
and Hope. As rightly said by Martin Luther, “For in the true nature of things, if we
rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold
and silver.” Green leaves, indeed, denote hope and new life.
As a college student I came across the famous words of Ravi Zacharias almost five or
six years back: “God is the shaper of your heart. God does not display his work in ab-
stract terms. He prefers the concrete, and this means that at the end of your life one
of the three things will happen to your heart: it will grow hard, it will be broken, or it
will be tender. Nobody escapes.” Shattered dreams, broken relationships, betrayal of
trust, no value for goodness fills the air that we breathe and yet, we still struggle to
find happiness. Despair is the word that sums it all up and yet, we strive to smile.
Meaninglessness tries to overshadow our beliefs, our work and invariably our exist-
ence. Psalm 34:18 says," The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who
are crushed in spirit."
"There can be no reproach to pain unless we assume human dignity, there is no rea-
son for restraints on pleasure unless we assume human worth, there is no legitimacy
to monotony unless we assume a greater purpose to life, there is no purpose to life
unless we assume design, death has no significance unless we seek what is ever-
lasting."-Ravi Zacharias. Yes we are more focused on the “temporary." What we need
is a Paradigm Shift. It is the need of the hour.

I want us to pause for a moment right now and count the number of times in a day we catch ourselves
thinking about our heavenly home, our true citizenship. What would it be like it ? Do we eagerly antici-
pate it? I doubt we even think about it on a daily basis. Just a reminder here: Jesus has said, “For where
your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Mathew 6:21) .If we start focusing on what is eternal, we
can gladly proclaim 2 Corinthians 4: 8-10,"We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; PER-
PLEXED, BUT NOT IN DESPAIR; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We al-
ways carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our
body." When we focus on our treasures in heaven, despair will start to become a long forgotten word in
our families. As Paul writes: "Christ in you, the hope of glory.” This is the biggest reason for us to rejoice.
Romans 5:5 reminds us: “And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our
hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us .”
If there is any gift the world needs today – it is Hope.

I praise God for providing me with this opportunity to share my testi-
mony with you all.
I am Pramod Minz and I am from Ranchi, a place from the neighboring
state of Jharkhand. I have been in Raxaul for 31 Years. My late child-
hood have been spent here as I came to Raxaul when I was in 6th
Standard. I lived with my relatives who were working at Duncan Hospi-
tal, Raxaul and continued my schooling. I completed my schooling in
1994 from Raxaul.
In 1995 I got an opportunity to get trained as an Eye Technician from
Trichy, which I completed and started working with the Duncan Hospi-
tal’s eye department and since then I have been a part of the Duncan
Hospital working as Eye Technician as well as helping in the Medical
Record Department.
It was in 2003 that the Lord brought Premlata Minz in my life, for which I am truly grateful to Him. We were
married on 14th February 2003 and continued working at Duncan Hospital. I am go glad to have Premlata as
my wife. She has been with me in all the ups and downs I have been through and kept encouraging me to
face all situations with prayers and I praise God for her. She is a real treasure from the Lord.
The Lord has blessed us with 2 beautiful children, Srishti & Prashant; Srishti was born in 2003 and Prashant in
2005. Both of them are studying in 9th and 7th respectively each.
We have seen God’s hand with us throughout our journey with Him at Duncan Hospital, Raxaul. We have
seen a lot of ups and downs & discouraging situations, but the Lord has been walking faithfully with us
throughout this journey with Him and we believe He will be with us in the rest of journey.

FINDING THE LOST SP a young man in the mid 20’s was brought to our emergency department after his foot s
crushed by a train. The Railway protection force personnel who had brought him told us
that he used to live on the railway platform. SP was totally incoherent. He kept muttering
to himself and laughing. He was obviously hallucinating and in psychosis. All he could re-
member was his name. Every other thing that he spoke was irrelevant. He was admitted
after the preliminary first aid and was planned for surgery. His foot was completely man-
gled and was beyond salvage so he underwent a below knee amputation and had a good
recovery. He was also seen by our psychiatrist who diagnosed him with a bipolar disorder
and put him on the appropriate medication. Soon his irrelevant talk, the muttering and
giggling ceased and he began to speak relevantly. He began to remember details such as
the names of his family members, the name of his village and what he had been doing all
these years. However we did not know how many years he had been away from his home
but it seemed to be many years. In the ward our nurses cared for him, they bathed him,
cleaned him, fed him and clothed him. The ward staff contributed and bought him clothes
and other necessities. Slowly SP began to walk around and become more social. He had a
very pleasant demeanor when anyone interacted with him. Once we got his details we
tried to share the same with the police and the RPF but they did not seem to do anything
about it. While searching through Google maps we were able to see his village and found out the contact number of
the nearby police station. On speaking with the police inspector of his block we got the phone numbers of his near and
dear ones. One evening a call came from his uncle and with a lot of excitement we came to the ward and SP was able
to speak with his uncle it seemed like finally his family had found him and they would come and take him back home.
The excitement soon turned to dismay when we realised that the family never intended to come back for him. They
kept saying that they do not have money to come and that he was a step child of his father and hence nobody would
come for him. We couldn't believe today a family would not want their member back. SP who never lost hope kept
insisting that he wanted to go back home. We slowly got him to try on a prosthetic limb but due to an ill fitting socket
he developed a small abrasion on his stump. We had to postpone giving him a prosthesis. With the help of the hospital
community staff we decided to take him by ourselves to his village. The community team was planning to go to his vil-
lage and interact with the local leaders, family members and others to sensitize them about mental health. It was sad
that nobody from SPs family wanted to come and get him.
Finally the day came to take him to his village. The community team too him there by road in their vehicle. They spoke
to his family and the local leaders sensitizing them about mental illness and how proper medication could help a lot of
people suffering from severe mental illness.Hopefully Shankar would find his home once again. We need to continue to
pray for him that he takes his medications regularly as that is the only thing that would prevent a recurrence of a psy-
chotic episode.
