The Paragraphe of My Design.
Throughout the experiments of four half-size dresses, I was able to consider the reconstruction of dress design, materiality, and learning sev-
eral machines such as, a laser cutting printer and a felt needle machine. From the experiences of four dresses, eventually, I got inspired to make the geometrically
shaped wool-felt dress with and yarns. 1. Form
I decided to design the geometric dress because of the reconstruction of patterndesign of Shingo Sato and Tomoko Nakamichi. Their pattern designs were unique and
avant-garde, and I liked their unconventional dress design. I wanted to try to make the dress more than usual; therefore, my fifth dress has the circle shape skirt part. I used a compass (a pen with a ribbon) to draw the exact circle shape. I wanted these two circle patterns were fixed its forms as much as they can, so I chose thicker fabric for the part. I designed a Kimono style of sleeves because I wanted to keep curved lines on torso part as well. These curved shoulder lines seemed to be more feminine and simple, and I liked that. The long fabric part is on the neckline to be a draped scarf or a belt, which make the dress more unique and practical.
2. MaterialI used four different colors and thicknesses of felt fabrics for my full-size dress. I was willing to take the risk of choosing various colors of material both felt and yarns. I loved the soft texture the solid colors of felt. Felt is also convenient for use because its hemlines do not need to
be sewed, and I just cut the hemlines. However, two fabrics among my four choices were wool, and I finished them with sticky tapes for fabric. I experimented to attach yarns on
the wool-felt with both the felting needle machine and the hand felting needle. It was a fascinating
experiment.3. Stitching & Zero-waste
Since stitching can be a part of design on felt, I have experiment-ed various stitchings with my home-sewing machine and
hand-stiching. Felt was easy to manipulate when I made the patterns, so I tried to focus on
zero-waste design.
