Who Are We?StageSource was founded almost 30 years ago, and as we near that anniversary, it is time to take a moment and consider, as a community, “Who Are We?” Who, or what, is the New England theater community? Who are we as artists? Who are we as individuals? What are our core values? What is our path moving forward? The StageSource Theater Conference will tackle these conversations at the conference, giving us an opportunity to have community wide impact, while also recognizing the role of the individual in the community. Who Are We? Let’s talk about that, together.

spotlight on: the StageSource Theater ConferenceWho are we? How do we tell our stories differently? June 7, 2015 Boston Opera HouseThe StageSource Theater Conference takes place on June 7, 2015 at the Boston Opera House, culminating in a celebration for StageSource’s 30th year! Boston’s Arts & Culture Chief, Julie Burros, will join us as our keynote speaker and workshops will be lead by teachers, administrators, and change facilitators through four workshop “tracks” to find the answers to the eternal question “Who Are We?” #WhoAreWeSTC15
the Opera House- a grand venue for a grand eventUnder the ownership of Donald Law and David Mugar, this year the Boston Opera House will graciously host the StageSource Conference. Built in 1928 as the flagship theatre for the Keith-Albee-Orpheum circuit of theatres, and renovated in 2004 at a cost of $55 million, the Boston Opera House today serves as Boston’s busiest commercial theatre, home to Broadway In Boston and the Boston Ballet. Conference attendees will listen to guest speakers in the dazzling 2600-seat auditorium, participate in break-out sessions in the many promenades and lounges scattered throughout the front-of-house, and enjoy a luncheon beneath the chandeliers in her grand lobbies.
accessibility and the Opera HouseThe increase in the number of Autism Awareness Nights, ASL programming and Audio Described theatre events is indicative of the expansion of audience-inclusive efforts from our StageSource theatre community. We are becoming a reflection of our audiences from `behind the curtain as well.
What an ideal and accessible location the Opera House Boston will be for the StageSource Theater Conference 2015.
The Boston Opera House is an outstanding example of an historic building that balances integrity to preserving the past with modeling inclusive practices of the present The venue has ADA compliant elevators and modular session breakout spaces. All we need now is your progressive and inclusive attitudes to fill the seats.
Conference tracksactors: We’re planning several workshops just for actors, to help you tell your own story more effectively – plus you’ll have a chance to network with producers and directors from all around the area.
Playwrights/Directors: Playwrights and directors will have a session devoted to working with new work, and the return of our popular playwright/director “speed dating” session where playwrights can practice telling their stories and refining their pitches.
theater Organizations & Producers: For theater organizations, there are tracks for marketing and development, including a session on crafting messages to appeal to audiences and funders, a panel dealing with new techniques for fundraising, and the latest approaches for putting butts in seats.
theater enthusiasts: Theater professionals and theater lovers alike will have the chance to hear from the state’s cultural leaders, get the lowdown on important initiatives involving diversity and inclusion, and meet others who love theater as much as you do!
