Assist with the design ofyour chapter’s future by sharingyour visionary ideas of what youwould like to experience and waysyour chapter can become a modelfor others during the next twoyears. What a success our districtmeetings were! Officers andcommittee chairs made a strongshowing. Training sessions wereheld for all incoming/repeatingpresidents and treasurers. Thechair of the Educational ExcellenceCommittee provided information onmany project and program endeav-ors. The chair of the StrategicAction Plan Committee assistedwith development of chapter plans, the Membership chair cheered onmembership growth, and the chairof the Bylaws Committee gaveinput for those submitting updatedchapter rules. Much guidance wasavailable to help participantsstrengthen their chapters. Enthusi-asm was evident at all meetings.Attendees, share your experienceswith your chapter members.Encourage members to attendDKG meetings at all levels.

“We don’t accomplish anything in this world alone…and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one’s life and all the weavings of individual threads

from one to another that creates something.” Sandra Day O’Connor

It is through this involvementthat we acquire a better under-standing of Delta Kappa Gammaand become more vested in theopportunities available. Now is the time.Do not wait until someone asksyou. Volunteer to lead and letanyone at the state level know youwill chair or serve on a committee,as an officer or present at a statemeeting. We want qualified andwilling members and appreciatethose who come forth.

From the Desk Of...Outstanding! Fantastic! Wonderful! Those are only three of the words used to describe thesix district meetings. While similar, each one was unique. What a pleasure it was totravel to New Port Richey, Jacksonville, Arcadia, Okeechobee, Boca Raton, andPensacola. The members were warm and welcoming. If you missed your district meetingthis year be sure and put it on your calendar for 2014. The meetings are opportunities toprovide specific training for treasurers and incoming presidents as well as to provideworkshops and pertinent information for all members.

Many events are planned for DKG members in the next few months beginning withthe newly elected district directors attending a training session to acquaint them with theresponsibilities of their new positions. Next, members are invited to the InternationalConvention in New York City followed by the Fall Workshop/Executive Board meeting inOrlando, September 14-15.

District Master CalendarA Way to Communicate, Support and

Connect District III chapter membersare field-testing a system thatallows them to post their meet-ings and activities on a central-ized calendar to share with oneanother. It is called the District IIIMaster Calendar. According toDebra Graff it is beneficial tohave instant contact with nearbychapters, share information onmeeting dates, projects andmotivational guest speakers aswell as having a place for stateleaders to research chaptermeeting schedules when arrang-ing visits to an area. With the assistance of the MuState Webmaster, Dr. Peg Dunn-

Snow, the District III MasterCalendar is accessible to allmembers through the Mu StateWebsite http://dkgmustateflorida.weebly.com. Each chapter in District IIIselected one member to enter herchapter’s meeting dates andmaintain the updates for thechapter on the Master Calendar. This member is also a point ofcontact for visitors or guests toconfirm any last minute meetingchanges. District III believes thatthe Calendar will be a way to share, support, and grow as a chapter, state organization and as aninternational Society.

News From Headquarters

Donna Heald, ChairMu State, HeadquartersAdministrative committee

The Mu State Headquarters Administrative Committee has terminated thelandline phone at headquarters. Considering the prevalence of personal cellphones and wi-fi devices as well as the limited use of the house, the commit-tee felt that the funds could better be spent in other areas. The cost of thephone was about $600 a year. The committee also approved repair of the sprinkler system, installationof a timer and trimming of the hedges around the property.

A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow. George Patton

BarbaraVan Diepen,Chair,Mu StateStrategicActionPlanning Team

Members of the Mu State SAP Committee attended each of the sixdistrict meetings and conducted a workshop to assist chapters informulating their individual Strategic Action Plans. It was heartening tosee the enthusiasm with which many chapters are proceeding to developtheir plans. Many wonderful ideas were presented and the committee islooking forward to continuing our collaboration with the chapters.Hopefully, we were able to demystify the process of strategic planningand help chapters zero in on some ideas that will work for each of them.

As your chapter develops and refines its own SAP, please send a copycopy to Barbara Van Diepen, SAP chairman at [email protected] committee is interested in your progress and wants to be able to reportthat chapters are working to develop their plans.

The committee will attend a workshop in New York City at the Interna-tional Convention to acquaint the other states with our progress, to ex-change news and to bring back new ideas that we will share with you inSeptember at Fall Workshop. Please revisit the Mu State plan that islisted on the website. We need your suggestions and ideas for updatingas we get ready for our biennial review to present to the next Mu Stateconvention.

After attending the district meetings, one question keeps popping up.Whom can we attract as new members, where and how? We often lookfor new members only in our schools, but the possibilities are limitless. An active member must be a woman who is employed as a professionaleducator at the time of her election or has been retired from an educa-tional position. Look at the following list of possibilities. See if you haveconsidered all of them or have others not on the list. Share them with me.
