    April Sketching Tours for Groups Tuesdays, April 3, 10, 17, and 24 lOAM and lPM leom basic drawing techniques in these special tours. Museum Educator Kenneth Staggers will demonstrate shading, highlighting and line drawings. Three-dimensional works in the exhibition Contempomry Africon Artists: Chonging Tmdition will be used as models. Intermediate ages. $25 per group (maximum 30).

    Collage/Montage Groups Thursdays, April 5, 12, 19, and 26 lOAM and lPM Create colorful and exciting ort work using collage and montage techniques. Museum Educator Kenneth Staggers will demonstrate how to use photographs, newspaper ond magazine clippings, colored paper, glue and cardboard in the creation of posters ond woll hangings. Workshop will be followed by o visit to the Museum's gollel'( to view collages in the exhibition Contempomry Africon Artists: Chonging Tmdition. All ages. $25 per group (maximum 30).

    Mbira-The African Thumb Piano Workshop Saturdays, April 14 and 21 2PM Musicians Kevin Hylton and Hasson Bokr of The Spirit Ensemble conduct this two-port workshop on making ond playing the mbira (African thumb piano). They will discuss the histol'( and use of the instrument ond demonstrate simplified means of constructing and playing the instrument. Adults. $12 per person for two sessions (materials included). Participants ore entitled to $2 discount off the general admission price for the April 22nd Vital Expressions performance of Ephot Mojuru.

    May Collage/Montage-Group Workshop Tuesdays and Thursdays May 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29 and 31 lOAM and lPM (See April listing). Please note, viewing of the exhibition Contempoltlty Africon Artists: Chonging T~t~dition will not be included in workshops ofter Moy 3rd.

    Artists-in-Residence Workshop Monoprints Saturday, May 12 2PM leom o one-step printing process for creating greeting cords, Mother's Doy cords, printed pictures ond wall-hangings. Studio Museum Artist-in-Residence Poul Gordere conducts this simple ond exciting workshop in monoprinting. Participants will construct their own printing plates from cardboard and found materials and then print them with ocl'(lic inks. All ages. $5 per person.

    El Hojj Molik El Shobozz-Mo/co/m X Film Showing Wednesday and Friday May 16 and 18 lOAM and lPM Saturday, May lt 2 and 4PM In commemoration of the birthday of Malcolm X (May 19), The Studio Museum in Harlem presents Emmy Award-winning chronicle on the life of Malcolm X produced by WABC-TV. This film focuses upon the ualilies and characteristics that predicated his rise as a leader and dynomi spobsmon for the Block Movement, and raises several unanswered que · about his violent death. Intermediate to adult. $1 per person.

    June Fabric Painting Saturdays, June 23 and 30 /2PM Spruce up your wardrobe or your living environment for the coming summer

    ' months! Museum Educator Kenneth Staggers will demonstrate o variety of hard edge pointing techniques that con be utilized in the decoration of textiles for clothing ond the home. All ages $10 per person for two sessions. Materials will be provided although participants ore welcome to bring personal items for decoration.

    Block Printing-Group Workshop Tuesdays and Thursdays June 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26 and 28 lOAM and lPM · learn this simple ond fun printing technique. Museum Educator Kenneth Staggers will demonstrate the use of various papers, pencils, tempera point ond cardboard in the creation of colorful printed pictures ond wall hangings. All oge $25 per group (maximum 30).

    Artist-in-Residence Workshop Plaster Assemblage Saturdays June 2 and 9 2PM Join us for this unique and innovative workshop conducted by Studio Museum Artist-in-Residence Jerome Meadows. Participants will learn how to cost objects in plaster and then assemble them with found materials in the creation of personal wall placques and reliefs. Intermediate to adult. $10

    person for two sessions.
