Notes from the Office

Medication

It is BCPS policy and rule (5540) that students may not carry medication (prescription or non-prescription) at any

time. A parent or adult must be the one to drop off or pick up medication to/from the school nurse. This also ap-

plies to students that may be visiting a parent or relative on weekends or holidays. A student carrying medication

may be subject to consequences per the BCPS Behavior Handbook as this creates a safety and health issue for all

students.

Hug & Go

Now that it is October, our students can easily find their classrooms. This includes our pre-k and kindergarten stu-

dents. Older students will no longer walk their siblings to their classrooms. We continue to have staff available dur-

ing arrival to assist any student in need.

Student Attendance and Absences

The Maryland State Department of Education standard for student attendance is 94%. Daily and on time attend-

ance is important to student learning. If your child is absent, please be sure to send in a note with the following in-

formation: Student name, date of absence, reason for absence, parent name and phone number. The note will

allow us to code the absence according to MSDE guidelines as well as contact you if needed. Many thanks for

your cooperation in this.

Early Dismissal

Should it be necessary for you to pick up your child prior to the end of the school day, please adhere to the follow-

ing policies/procedures:

A note should be sent to the main office which includes the date, the child’s first and last names and the name

of the child’s teacher. PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL THE TEACHER!

Phone calls to request an early pick-up must be made directly to the office staff BEFORE 2:00pm. This infor-

mation should not be left as a voice mail or email message.

Do not request your child for early dismissal after 2:45pm. After this time, a student may be dismissed

as a walker to our doors near the gym at 3:10. This assists us with the busy end-of-day preparations in the

office. We thank you for your cooperation with this.

Interim Reports

Interim progress reports may be sent home with students during the week of October 4th. Please be sure to review

your child’s current grades, sign the cover letter and return it to school. If you want more specific information, you

can check your child’s grades in BCPS One. If you have additional questions about your child’s progress, do not

hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. Conference day is scheduled for Friday, November 11th.
