WEEK OF COMPASSION SPECIAL OFFERINGFEBRUARY 21 & 28

“Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.” – Ruth 1:16

There are many articles at www.weekofcompassion.org highlighting the ways your donations help those around the

world. Here is one:Feb. 2, 2016 - This article details the current struggles of Burundians seeking

refuge in Tanzania. This Burundian refugee crisis adds to many in the last century caused by various atrocities including German and Belgian colonization, civil wars, and genocides.

Over the course of 2015, nearly 240,000 Burundian men, women and children have been forced to flee their homes because of political conflict and election-related violence. The situation inside Burundi continues to deteriorate, marked by targeted killings of opposition leaders. In addition to persecution because of political and social group affiliation, Burundians increasingly face food insecurity and environmental degradation as a consequence of civil unrest.

Week of Compassion is working with our partner, Church World Service, to respond to this emergency in various refugee camps, including Nyarugusu Camp, Tanzania, home to more than 85,000 Burundian refugees. Every day more than 200 new Burundian refugees arrive by bus. All new refugees arriving in the camp sleep in mass shelters, each with a plastic roof and upwards of 150 people.

your own child would like to be part of this preparation for baptism, please contact Pastor Greg A.S.A.P. so he can visit with you about the schedule of when we will meet, and expectations for the coming weeks leading up to Easter Sunday. We will likely meet on either Sunday afternoons, or a time after school during the week … we will finalize a time after you have a chance for some input, but will begin meeting at least by February 21st.

“MARCH FORTH IN PRAYER”March 4th is World Day of Prayer.

We will march forth in prayer by holding a Prayer Vigil on March 4th, the World Day of Prayer. From 7am until 7pm that Friday, our members will have the opportunity to join Christians throughout the world in prayer. Participants will be asked to come to the church, if able, for a time of prayer. There will be a station set up in the front of the sanctuary with a list of suggestions for prayer and scriptures for meditation. The North Street door will be unlocked during the vigil. If you are unable to come to the church, you may sign up and pray in your home. The sign-up sheet will be available before and after worship and during coffee time Sundays. During the week it will be available in the church office during normal office hours.

~ Thank you, Neill Unger

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.” ~I Corinthians 12:4-6

As I read these verses, and the verses in the rest of the chapter, from my Bible reading plan this morning, I started thinking about our church family. Truly God has brought together so many wonderful people who make up our church family – people who give so much of their time and talent and energy to make our church what it is. I cannot name everyone here in this brief space – but let me just name a few, people who work behind the scenes:

Larry VanVelsor, John & Janet Foster – for snow blowing the sidewalksNeill Unger – for creating worship displays, serving as Moderator of the Board

and interim Worship Ministry ChairCarmen De Voss – for sewing cloths for our worship displaysCandi Moulton – for creating prayer centers for Ash Wednesday serviceJanet Christiansen – serving as the funeral coordinatorEllen Anderson – for coordinating the bereavement dinners and getting a great

team to help her. She also works as a youth sponsor and is the Chair of the Elder Board. What name would you add? We thank God for each and every one! What a

great church we have! God bless and keep you all, Pastor MJ
