Oliver Cromwell 1599-1658
● Born in England● Became a Puritan as an adult.● Created the New Model Army.● Fought against the Royalists in the English
Civil War● Victorious in the Civil War.
Oliver Cromwell and one of his soldiers.
1641 Rebellion● Displaced Irish angry at Planters and settlers
in Ulster.● Prominent Catholic Irish tried to take back
their lands and towns in Ulster from the English.
● Anger and frustration taken out on Protestants.
● Thousands of Protestants murdered.

become very powerful.● King Charles I wanted more
power but disagreed with his parliament.
● Civil War broke out over who would rule.
● Charles I beheaded by parliament in 1649.
