  • What is Low Back Pain?Low back pain is any back pain between the ribs and the top of the leg from any cause

  • EPIDEMIOLOGYThere is no data about Herniated Nucleus Pulposus epidemiology, because it is not an epidemic diseaseLow back pain is the second most common disease after common cold. Waddle proclaimed that low back pain was an epidemic disease in 20th century. It usually occur to people from 21 to 65 of ages. In 70% of cases, low back pain has no obvious etiology of pathogenesis.

  • How does HNP cause LBP? TRAUMAHERNIATERUPUTUREPRESSURE ON THESPINAL NERVESNUCLEUS PULPOSUS BURSTING OUT OF THE DISCLOW BACK PAIN

  • SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS1Herniated Disc in the lower back:Intense pain in the buttocks, thigh, calf, and sometimes part of the foot.3 Numbness and tingling in the body part served by the affected nerves.2 Weakness of the body part that affected by the nerves. This may cause you to stumble, or impair your ability to lift or hold items.

  • DIAGNOSISPHYSICAL EXAM:Numbness or loss of feelingMuscle reflexes (slower of missing)Muscle strength (weaker or not)Body posture (Curves spine or not)EMG may be done to determine the exact nerve root that is involved.Myelogram may be done to determine the size and location of disk herniation.Nerve conduction velocity test may also be done.Spine MRI or spine CT will show that the herniated disk is pressing on the spinal canal. Spine x-ray may be done to rule out other causes of back or neck pain. However, it is not possible to diagnose a herniated disk by a spine x-ray alone.

  • TREATMENT1. MEDICATIONNSAID for long term pain controlNarcotics: for severe pain

    2. STEROID MEDICINE INJECTIONS

    3. DISKECTOMYRemoving all parts of the injured disc.4. EDUCATIONLifestyle changesDiet and exercise to decrease back pain.Go to therapist and learn how to strengthen muscle that support the spine.Avoid heavy lifting or twisting your back for the first 6 weeks after the pain starts
