so that this skripsi entitled “The Communicative Purpose of The Writer of The

Textbook “Active English” for The Elementary School Grade Five in Dawe

District” is able to accomplished.

This skripsi is not merely her own work because of having been greatly

improved by some great people around his who suggested and guided his by

giving comments and advises to make it better. One point is this skripsi is

arranged to fulfill the one or requirements for completing the sarjana program.

Key words: communicative purpose, monologue text, textbook, Active English

Communicative Purpose is a defining factor of the genre of a text (other

factors include structure, content, form, intended audience and medium), genre

being „primarily characterized by the communicative purpose it is intended to

fulfill. Unconsciously, the writer of the Elementary School tends to relate

monologue text with certain genre that should be taught for the higher level of

school. The English textbooks for the learners of the Elementary School are

various and the writer wants to investigate and analyze the communicative

purpose of the writer of the textbook of “Active English”. Moreover, the writer

chooses “Active English” as English textbook to analyze because many schools

especially almost school in Dawe District use it. For the reason above, the writer

is interested to carry out a research entitled “The Communicative Purpose of the

Texts Found in the Textbook “Active English” for the Elementary School Grade

Five.” The purposes of the research are (i) to find out the communicative purpose of

the texts found in of the textbook “Active English” for the elementary school grade five

(ii) to find out the text type found in the textbook “Active English” for the elementary

school grade five

This research is qualitative descriptive research. The data of this study are

monologue texts found in the textbook “Active English” for grade five. Meanwhile, the

data source of this study is the textbook “Active English” for grade five. The instrument

of this study is the writer.

The result of this research shows that (i) the communicative purposes of

the texts found in the textbook “Active English” for Elementary School grade five

in are to describe particular thing, person or place (descriptive text), to retell past

events (recount text)and to entertain/to amuse the readers or listeners (narrative

text). There are 19 monologue texts found in the textbook “Active English” for

Elementary School grade five in (ii) the text type found in the textbook “Active

English” for Elementary School grade five in are descriptive, recount and

narrative

Considering the process and the results of this research, the writer suggests

that (i) The teachers should consider that teaching communicative purpose of the

text for the students is important (ii) The students should study more about

communicative purpose of the text (iii) This researcher can be a reference to

conduct the same field.

Tujuan komunikatif adalah faktor penentu dalam genre (faktor lain termasuk

struktur, isi, bentuk, ditujukan untuk penonton dan media), genre mempunyai ciri-

ciri tujuan komunikatif yang harus dipenuhi. Secara tidak sengaja, penulis SD

cenderung mengaiktakn monolog teks dengan genre tertentu yang seharusnya

diajarkan untuk level sekolah yang lebih tinggi. Buku teks Bahasa Inggris untuk

siswa SD bervariasi dan penulis ingin meneliti dan menganalisis tujuan

komunikatif penulis buku teks “Active English”. Oleh karena itu, penulis memilih

“Active English” sebagai buku teks Bahasa Inggris karena banyak sekolah di

Kecamatan Dawe banyak yang menggunakannya. Untuk alasan di atas, penulis

tertarik untuk melakukan penelitian berjudul “Tujuan Komunikatif Teks yang

Ditemukan di Buku Teks “Active English” Untuk SD Kelas V”

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: (i) menemukan tujuan kominikatif buku teks

“Active English” untuk SD kelas V (ii) menemukan jenis teks yang ditemukan

dalam buku teks “Active English” untuk SD kelas V Penelitian adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian ini adalah teks

monolog yang ditemukan dalam buku teks “Active English”untuk kelas V. Sedangkan

sumber data penelitian ini adalah buku teks “Active English” untuk kelas V. instrument

penelitian ini adalah penulis.

Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa (i) tujuan komunikatif teks yang

ditemukan di buku teks “Active English” untuk SD kelas V adalah untuk

menggambarkan benda, orang atau tempat secara khusus (descriptive), untuk

menceritakan kejadian di masa lalu (recount) dan untuk menghibur pembaca

(narrative). Ada 19 teks yang ditemukan dalam buku teks “Active English” untuk

SD kelas V di Kecamatan Dawe (ii) jenis teks yang ditemukan di buku teks

“Active English” untuk SD kelas V di Kecamatan Dawe adalah descriptive,

recount dan narrative.

Berdasarkan proses dan hasil penelitian ini, penulis menyarankan bahwa

(i) guru seharusnya mempertimbangkan bahwa mengajar tujuan komunikatif

untuk siswa penting (ii) siswa seharusnya belajar tentang tujuan komunikatif teks

(iii) peneitian ini bisa menjadi referensi untuk melakukan penelitian di bidang

yang sama
