CGMW is a non-profit-making scientific and

educational non-Government Organization (NGO)

affiliated to IUGS since 1966 and to IUGG

since 2014.

CGMW programs are carried out in partnership

with geological surveys, universities,

oceanographic institutions and industrial firms,

and with the support of IUGS and UNESCO.

Our members are Geological Surveys of countries

and territories around the World

Coloring follows the Commissionfor the Geological Map of the World.

Chart reproduced for the 2012 Brisbane34th International Geological Congress

Chart drafted by K.M. Cohen, S. Finney, P.L. Gibbard(c) International Commission on Stratigraphy, May 2012

Units of all rank are in the process of being defined by GlobalBoundary Stratotype Section and Points (GSSP) for their lowerboundaries, including those of the Archean and Proterozoic, long defined by Global Standard Stratigraphic Ages (GSSA).

Charts and detailed information on ratified GSSPs areavailable at the website http://www.stratigraphy.org

Numerical ages are subject to revision and do not define unit s inthe Phanerozoic and the Ediacaran; only GSSPs do. For boundariesin the Phanerozoic without ratified GSSPs or without constrainednumerical ages, an approximate numerical age (~) is provided.

Numerical ages for all systems except Triassic, Cretaceous andPrecambrian are taken from “A Geologic Time Scale 2012” byGradstein et al. (2012); those for the Triassic and Cretaceous wereprovided by the relevant ICS subcommissions.
