DISCIPLES IN MISSION/PASTORAL PLANNINGDISCIPLES IN MISSION/PASTORAL PLANNINGDISCIPLES IN MISSION/PASTORAL PLANNINGDISCIPLES IN MISSION/PASTORAL PLANNING April 24 ~ Fifth Sunday of Easter
Paul and Barnabas tell the other disciples, “It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.” The Church is undergoing many hardships today, too. What will turn the tide? In 51 words from today’s Gospel – a bit longer than a Tweet - Jesus gives a simple command: “…I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.” Ah, but here’s the rub, it may not be as simple as it sounds. Read carefully: “As I have loved you…” Jesus is ‘kicking it up a notch’. Not just love one another, but love as He loves. This can be hard work, and it may take practice, but here’s the payoff, “This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

SAINT BRENDAN SCHOOL 29 Rita Road (617) 282-3388
Thank you to City Councilor, Frank Baker and State Representative, Dan Hunt, for sponsoring the Father/Daughter Dance. Students of Saint Brendan School participated in One Boston Day by spread-ing a message of good will and kindness in the neighborhood. K1, K2 and 1st grade sang to the residents of Keystone. Pre-K, 2nd grade and 3rd grade made good luck cards to parents who are running the Boston Marathon for Team MR8 and Mass Fallen Heroes. Grades 4, 5 & 6 cleaned up the Tot Lot Play-ground and surrounding area. There will be an open house for new families on Tuesday, April 26th at 10am. You will have the opportunity to sit in on classes and hear what Saint Brendan School has to offer your child/children. Families that may be interested in sending their children to Saint Brendan School in September 2016 and would like to schedule a tour should call 617-282-3388 and ask to speak with Christine Bailey. “Saint Brendan’s Night Out” featuring a Corn-hole Tournament (Adults Only 21+) DJ, Dancing and many raffle prizes will be held on Saturday, May 21st in the Lower Church Hall. All proceeds will go towards a new security system at the school. Teams interested in participating in the Corn-hole Tournament should register with Christine Bailey ASAP. There are a limited amount of teams allowed to play. $30 per team to play (includes admission) Admission for the event is $20 and can be purchased in advance or $25 at the door. More information, purchase tickets and/or to register for corn-hole email: [email protected]

Dear Parishioners, It was with a heavy heart that I announced to you last weekend that, effective June 1st, I will be transferred from our collaborative to a new assign-ment at the parishes of St. Rose and and St. Agnes in Topsfied and Middleton. The pastor of St. Rose and St. Agnes, Fr. Michael Medas, is an Air Force chaplain. He recently received and generously answered a call to serve our Catholic men and women in the military who are sacrificing so much for our safety. Because of my familiarity with the parishes (I was assigned there during the summer of 2013 between my priesthood ordination and my last year studying in Rome) the Cardinal will be sending me there for the next year to care for the people while the pastor is away. It has been an honor to serve you during these past two years in Dorchester. There has certainly been no lack of excitement during my time with you! Over and over again I have marvelled at your pa-tience, understanding, and generosity toward me. Wherever I go I will always carry the wisdom and love you shared with me during my time with you. While there is a heaviness in having to say good-bye in June, it is gratitude, not sorrow, that I feel most strongly as I reflect upon the years I have spent coming to know and love you as your priest. Christ has blessed me so richly through you. May we always be one in Him and with one another in our shared communion in His Body and Blood.
In prayerful gratitude, Fr. Tom
