Fluffy French ToastIngredients: ¼ cup all-purpose flour

1 cup of milk

1 pinch of salt

3 eggs

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon sugar

12 thick slices of bread

Cooking Instructions:

Measure the flour into a large mixing bowl and slowly whisk the milk into the bowl. Thereafter, put in the salt, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla extract and sugar and mix well.

Once the mixture is completely smooth, put in the bread slices and let it soak in the mixture until fully saturated.

Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium heat and cook bread on each side until golden brown.

Serve hot.

Acid reflux, sometimes referred to as GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease), usually presents itself with a burning sensation in the esophagus (the tube that’s leads to your stomach).This burning is a result of stomach acid rising up into the esophagus.

Acid: not the enemy

Though the standard treatment is acid blocking medications (proton pump inhibitors, Nexium etc.), or Calcium Carbonate (tums etc.) which neutralizes the acid, you may be shocked to hear that the problem is not too much acid. We clearly see that the older we get, the less stomach acid we have, and yet the rate of heartburn actually increases with age. The real cause of heartburn is impaired digestion, and may actually come from a lack of stomach acid. When your digestive system does not function optimally, it creates fermentation, which in turn pushes up the stomach acid to the esophagus.

Treating GERD with acid blocking medication may be harmful; ironically, it will actually impair digestion even more, because we need stomach acid to break down our foods properly. The most recent study has shown it to block the absorption of magnesium; a vital mineral for

good health. These meds will also impair the absorption of vitamin B 12, among other nutrients. Another very concerning side effect of these medications is osteoporosis (thinning of the bone). There are numerous other side effects which should be taken into consideration before going on these medications.

Avraham was a fine avreich who spent most of his day earning a decent living, yet made sure to set aside time for his evening shiur. Although he wasn’t known for his diligence in learning, there was one aspect of his avodas hashem that caught everyones attention-his tefillah. When he stood and davened, time stood still; nothing else mattered. It was as if he was deep in conversation with the One Above. His fellow congregants wondered at his extreme d’veikus .

When questioned, he shared the following: “When I was a child, I grew up in a home that was immaculately kept and very well organized. My mother had a passion for cleanliness, and spent an inordinate amount of hours fulfilling it. One day after cheder, my mother made

She told me to shake the table, which was covered with a starched white tablecloth. Me, being the obedient child that I was, did as she had said; albeit cautiously, out of fear of spilling the water. ‘Stronger,’ my mother urged. ‘Give it a good shake!’ When I did that, the water spilled on the table, dripped onto the chairs, and then wet the floor.
