THE CO-OP CHRONICLE July 20, 2018: Notes from the Director - Iris Hernandez WEEK #3: July 16th - July 20th Week #3 at Co-op was even more exciting than last week! Besides all of the engaging “majors” and “minors” the campers are experiencing, every grade experienced enriching field trips and in-house workshops. Please save the date for our Parent Open House Day, August 3rd at 2:15pm. This will be a 45 minute tour of your child’s favorite Co-op experiences. Campers will lead their parents on the tour. Our educators, swimming team and other staff will be available to answer questions. Learn about your child’s Co-op Day and explore our materials and program rooms! NOTES FROM THE THEME EDUCATORS Insight into the Co-Op Majors Michelle Burton, Stagecraft Campers have been designing and creating the sets and props for various public performances that teach that "Kindness Matters" to the community. They have been whittling wood figures, using drills and other tools to create the sets and puppet theatre. Nora Nigro, Design Studio: Textiles Campers have been using textiles, sewing machines and paper mache to create the characters and setting of stories to teach that "Kindness Matters" to the community. Brett Sussman, Word PLAY Campers have been creating stories and practicing plays publically to teach that "Kindness Matters" to the community. Sarah Cronin, Framed! Campers have been creating stop motion animation videos that teach other kids about kindness. Emily Henderson, Take Flight Campers have been creating and testing flying machines. They recently started using wind tunnels to test velocity, motion and force. Alicia Parrino, Fit & Fun Campers have been learning about the food groups, planning how to stay healthy and fit. ESY Snapshot ESY campers have been enjoying their theme of the week. The “Whales” were scheduled to go to The Maritime Aquarium in which they will board a 64-foot all-aluminum catamaran vessel with hybrid-electric propulsion that will tour the Long Island Sound. They will observe, classify, measure and all learn about the marine life they capture and release. The other ESY groups were scheduled for in-house workshops with educators from The Westchester Children’s Museum in which they will be challenged in using keva planks to build structures. CO-OP HAPPENINGS & HIGHLIGHTS The 1st and 2nd grade campers went on a field trip to Stamford Nature Center. The 3rd and 4th grade campers were scheduled for the breathtaking, interactive, underwater journey at the National Geographic: Encounter Ocean Odyssey in Times Square that uses cutting-edge technology to transport visitors to extraordinary places. The 5th grade campers were scheduled for The Maritime Aquarium in which they will board a 64-foot all-aluminum catamaran vessel with hybrid-electric propulsion that will tour the Long Island Sound. The 5th grade campers will observe, classify, measure and learn about the marine life we capture and release. “GOTCHA” MOMENT OF THE WEEK Co-Op “Gotcha” Moments feature an instance of a Counselor going above & beyond to make a difference in someone else’s Co-Op experience. The counselor duo Abigail Hernandez & Jacob Hocking were caught interacting with their 1st grade seahorses in so many nurturing and encouraging ways this week. COMING UP Grades 1 & 2 going to the Marionette Theater in NYC on Thursday, 7/26 Grades 3-5 and the ESY Whales are going to the Intrepid in NYC on Friday, 7/27 Westchester Children’s Museum will provide in house workshops next Friday for ESY groups. WEEK #3: July 16th - July 20th   Week #3 at Co-op was even more exciting

SEMANA #3: 16 DE JULIO - 20 DE JULIO ¡La semana # 3 en Co-op fue aún más impresionante que la semana pasada! Además de todas las actividades en los

salones de "mayores" y "menores" que los campistas han estado experimentando, cada grado fue a excursiones y talleres enriquecedoras. Por favor, guarde la fecha para nuestro Día de Puertas Abiertas para Padres, el 3 de agosto a las 2:15 p.m. Este será un recorrido de 45 minutos de las experiencias favoritas de su hijo/a en Co-op. Los campistas guiarán a sus padres en la guía. Nuestros educadores, equipo de natación y otro personal estarán disponibles para responder a sus preguntas. ¡Aprenda sobre las experiencias de su hijo/a y explore nuestros materiales y salas de programas!

NOTAS DE LOS EDUCADORES TEMÁTICOS Conocimiento de lås clases de Co-Op

■ Michelle Burton, Escenografía Los campistas han estado diseñando y creando los escenarios y accesorios para varias presentaciones públicas que enseñan que "la amabilidad es importante" para la comunidad. Han estado recortando figuras de madera, usando taladros y otras herramientas para crear varios teatros de marionetas.

■ Nora Nigro, Design Studio: Textiles Los campistas han usado textiles, máquinas de coser y papel maché para crear los personajes y el escenario de historias para enseñar que la "bondad importa" a la comunidad.

■ Brett Sussman, Juego de palabras en actuación Los campistas han estado creando historias y practicando públicamente para enseñar que la "bondad importa" a la comunidad.

■ Sarah Cronin, Framed! Los campistas han estado creando videos de animación que enseñan a otros niños acerca de la bondad.

■ Emily Henderson, Take Flight Los campistas han estado creando y probando máquinas voladoras. Recientemente comenzaron a usar túneles de viento para probar la velocidad, el movimiento y la fuerza de sus máquinas.

■ Alicia Parrino, Fit & Fun Los campistas han estado aprendiendo sobre los grupos de alimentos, planeando cómo mantenerse saludables y en forma.

El Programa de ESY Los campistas de ESY han estado disfrutando de su tema de la semana. Las "ballenas" estaban programadas para ir al Acuario Marítimo en el que abordarán un barco catamarán de aluminio de 64 pies con propulsión híbrida eléctrica que recorrerá el estrecho de Long Island. Observarán, clasificarán, medirán y aprenderán sobre la vida marina que capturan y liberan. Los otros grupos de ESY fueron programados para talleres internos con educadores del Museo de Niños de Westchester en los que van a usar tablones de keva para construir estructuras.

QUE ESTÁ PASANDO EN CO-OP Los campistas de 1 ° y 2 ° grado hicieron una excursión al Centro de Naturaleza de Stamford. Los campistas de 3 ° y 4 ° grado tenían programado un viaje submarino interactivo en el National

Geographic: Encounter Ocean Odyssey en Times Square que usan tecnología de vanguardia para transportar a los visitantes a lugares extraordinarios. Los campistas de 5º grado fueron programados para el Acuario Marítime en el que abordarán un barco catamarán de aluminio de 64 pies con propulsión híbrida eléctrica que recorrerá Long Island Sound. Los campistas de 5º grado observarán, clasificarán, medirán y aprenderán sobre la vida marina que capturamos y liberamos.

VIENDO HACIA ADELANTE ➔ Grados 1 y 2 van al Teatro Marioneta en Nueva

York el jueves, 26 de julio ➔ Grados 3-5 y ESY Whales van

al Intrepid en Nueva York el viernes, 27 de julio ➔ El Museo de Niños de Westchester ofrecerá talleres

en MAS el próximo viernes para los grupos de ESY. ➔ Guarde la fecha para el Día de puertas abiertas para

padres, 3 de agosto a las 2:15 p.m. ➔ ¡Horario extendido de biblioteca de 3-4 pm los lunes,

martes, jueves y viernes!
