This includes prenatal exposure, family alcohol and other drug use (AOD) or young person AOD. • Support leading research and education in key areas of need in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), parental drug and alcohol use and adolescent drug and alcohol use. • Undertake capacity building across NSW by providing online and face-to-face training for paediatricians, GPs, allied health, child protection staff, educators, adult drug and alcohol services. • Develop resources to increase knowledge about drug and alcohol use in families • Develop prevention and intervention strategies to support local services and guide policy across NSW. The FASD Service offers multidisciplinary assessment for children and young people with suspected FASD.

Comprehensive medical, developmental and psychological assessment is provided, as well as recommendations for support and intervention.

Clinics are run with a multidisciplinary team of paediatricians, psychologists, speech and occupational therapists.

Referrals are accepted from across NSW by a GP or other medical specialist.

The Family Service supports the health and wellbeing of children, young people and their families who have a parent with a drug and alcohol history.

Clinics are run with a multidisciplinary team including a paediatrician and psychologist who provide assessment, management and intervention for a variety of concerns including:

• Physical health and nutrition• Growth and development• Sleep difficulties• Attention and learning difficulties • Mood problems• Anxiety• Trauma• Family relationships

Referrals are accepted from across NSW by a GP or other medical specialist.

The Adolescent Service is for young people under 17 years seeking treatment for alcohol or drug use.

Clinics are held within the Department of Adolescent Medicine at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and the Centre for Adolescent and Young Adult Health at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.

The multidisciplinary team includes a Paediatrician, psychologist, youth health nurse and social worker who provide adolescent health assessment, drug and alcohol assessment, counselling and intervention. Support is also offered to parents and carers of young people with substance use.

A GP or medical referral is required for a specialist appointment.
