Registration for Faith Formation is available for new students only. Call Noranne S. Wamester, Pastoral Associate at (860) 529-6765. Our Faith Formation Program is in need of two catechists for the Saturday morning program at Emerson Williams. The fir st is for one second grade catechist with a class that has twelve children. The second is for a Grade Four catechist with a class that has fourteen children. All who serve as a catechist must fill out a background check and attend a Protecting God's Children Workshop. This is mandated by the Archdiocese of Hartford as we are called to be in compliance for the safety for all children. Please call the Faith Formation Office at 860-529-6765. The morning classes at Emerson are filled with joy and enthusiasm for the Lord and for our faith. Please consider answering Gods' call to become a catechist, a teacher of our Catholic Faith. The Parish Family home communities are now filled. PFH catechists are also a great, enthusiastic team. All catechists are committed to sharing their faith with our children. We are indeed blessed.

Letters have been sent this week regarding late registrations. This will be the last com-munication sent. The Faith Formation Elemen-tary Program will begin on Saturday, Septem-ber 24th at Emerson-Williams School. PFH communities will begin after that date. PFH catechists will notify their parents about their calendars after our mid-September catechist meeting.

7th & 8th grade Faith Formation:

Middle School Faith Formation classes will begin on Tues. Sept. 20th for Grade 8, and Wed. Sept. 21st for Grade 7. All reg-istered students will be receiving their wel-come letter and schedule for the year in the mail this week. Enjoy these last final days of summer and we pray for a smooth tran-sition to the new school year for all. Students entering Grade Nine will receive a letter of invitation in September to consider embarking on the journey toward Confirmation 2017. The schedule for Children's Liturgy of the Word will be announced in a few weeks. Parents are strongly encouraged to worship as a family.

What sets Solomon apart is his quest for and deep love of wisdom. Even as Solo-mon ascends the throne of his father, Da-vid, he asks not for long life, riches, nor conquest of his enemies. Rather, with deep humility, he asks for a listening heart, one that will bring him closer to God. He seeks discernment to know what is right that he might be a king pleasing to the Lord. In all his endeavors Solomon does not hesitate to seek guidance from God. A lesson for us all! Solomon’s Prayer offers us clear and sim-ple instructions today: unless we seek the Lord’s wisdom our plans are unsure, our deliberations timid and our souls burdened by life’s heavy demands. The secret of Solomon’s “success” is his confidence in the Lord’s gift of wisdom for all who seek it. Humbly requested and abundantly giv-en, wisdom “sets our earthly path straight.” We have only to follow the example of Solomon set forth in the seventh chapter of this book: I prayed and wisdom was given to me. Let us make this our prayer.

Weekly Reflection for the Year of Mercy

In Misericordiae Vultus, Pope Francis states that “Love can never be just an abstraction. By its very nature, it has concrete expression in the intentions, attitudes and behaviors of our daily living.” What efforts do we make to manifest our love to one another? Can we do more?

A Weekly Bible Study

23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Wisdom 9:13-18 Is there a better way to usher in the new academic year than by immersing our-selves in God’s wellspring of “wisdom?” The insightful words of a mere mortal lead us to wonder if the unknown author of today’s first reading actually understands the mind of God. The Book of Wisdom was written about fifty years before the coming of Christ. In today’s passage, “Solomon’s Pray-er,” the author speaks in the person of this 10th century B.C. king. Who exact-ly was this wise Hebrew sage who in-fluenced today’s writing? Solomon was unlike most kings who reigned over Judah and Israel. A rather curious passage often repeated through-out the Second Book of Kings gives us a glimpse into a common pattern among the vast majority of monarchs: He was a king who did what was evil in the sight of the Lord.

If you can, let go to follow as a priest or deacon, brother or sister. Call Fr. Jeffrey Gubbiotti, Director of Voca-tions, Archdiocesan Center at St. Thom-as Seminary, Tel. 860-242-5573, email [email protected] or visit the web at www.vocationshartford.org. SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time Monday: Labor Day Thursday: The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Friday: St. Peter Claver Saturday: Blessed Virgin Mary TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Sometimes, this “Treasures” column can seem to be a species of crib-notes for Catholic Jeopardy. Indeed, you may never know when knowledge of our particular vocabulary may come in handy. Such is the case with papal bulls, which conjure up all sorts of images, but are actually not what you might expect. A bull is a papal letter on a matter of great consequence, such as a decision about a crisis in the Church, the declaration of a doctrine, the summoning of a council, or the canonization of a saint. It has a more solemn intention than a mere letter or even an encyclical, a teaching letter circu-lated through the whole Church. Its odd name comes from the Latin bulla, which is the stamp used to apply a signatorial design to the hot lead, or even molten silver or gold, that seals the decree. The format for the bull is the name of the pope in Latin, followed by the title “servant of the serv-ants of God,” also in Latin, and then the text. The title of the bull is always the first two words of the text. Some famous papal bulls are Exsurge Domine (Arise, O Lord), written against Martin Luther’s Ninety-five Theses in 1520; Munificentissimus De-us (The Most Bountiful God), the promulgation of the dogma of the Assumption in 1950 by Pope Pius XII; or Humanae Salutis (Human Salvation), by which Pope John XXIII convened the Second Vati-can Council in 1962.

Fill us at daybreak with your kindness, that we may shout for joy and gladness

all our days. — Psalm 90:14

INVITED The Good News is that we have all been invit-ed—invited to the Kingdom, invited to be disciples. It’s a life-changing invitation, and like so many other such invitations, it requires a great deal of delibera-tion and discernment. Whether we choose marriage, ordination, single life, or community life, we know the serious planning and consideration that accompa-ny these profound decisions. Like the tower-builder in the Gospel, we have weighed both the monetary and emotional cost. We have pondered and planned our lives in the direction to which we believe God has called us. And while we pray for guidance and acceptance of God’s will, we often fail to understand so much. Like Solomon, we turn to God for wisdom and counsel in our life-changing decisions. TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Who can ever know God’s coun-sel unless God gives wisdom and sends the Holy Spirit from on high? (Wisdom 9:13-18b). Psalm — In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge (Psalm 90). Second Reading — Paul asks Philemon to accept back his slave Onesimus, not as a slave but as a brother (Philemon 9-10, 12-17). Church of the Incarnation Women's Club

Installation -- Save the Date

This year, the Women's Club Installation Ceremony will be held as part of the an-nual Membership Tea at 7 pm on Thurs., September 15th, in Fr. Crawford Hall. Due to several resignations among the women previously elected to the 2016-18 executive committee, a brief business meeting will be held at the start of the even-ing to elect members to fill those vacancies. Immediately after the election, all of the women taking office for 2016-18 will be sworn in during a simple, brief cere-mony in Fr. Crawford Hall. This will be followed by refreshments & socializing. Women’s Club renewal letters will be mailed in August, and the full slate of mem-bers up for election to the executive committee will be listed in the September Bi-Lines.

Join Archbishop Leonard P. Blair to Honor First Responders at the 2016 Blue Mass Sunday, Sept. 11th at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 11am, Police, Fire, Emergency Responders, the Department of Corrections and other organizations who are in the service of protecting the public’s well-being, will participate in an opening procession on Farmington Avenue in Hartford on Sept. 11th. It will lead into the Cathedral, the mother Church of the Archdiocese, where Archbishop Leonard P. Blair will celebrate the Sunday Liturgy. While this annual event will once again honor the courage, generosity, personal sacrifice and life-saving com-petencies of first-responders, it will also be an occasion to reflect prayerfully on our unity as “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

F.Y.I. We have low gluten hosts available for those who require them. There is always a Minister of Holy Communion available at communion time in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.
