MINISTRY NEWS

RESPECT LIFE

The Catholic Perspective on End-of-Life

Care and the Dangers of Doctor-

Prescribed Suicide - In New Jersey, a “Death with

Dignity” bill is pending, which, if passed, would

legalize doctor-prescribed suicide in our state. Yet

what does “Death with Dignity” really mean? What

does the church teach about life-sustaining healthcare

decisions? On Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 7 pm, guest

speaker Jennifer Ruggiero, Director of the Office of

Respect for Life – Diocese of Metuchen, will present a

workshop that addresses the following topics:

Advance Directives for Health Care, Nutrition and

Hydration, Proportionate Care, Palliative Care, the

Dangers of Doctor-Prescribed Suicide Legislation. The

workshop takes place in Little Flower’s school

cafeteria at 7 pm and is free of charge. Please join us

to learn more about this important topic.

FOOD CARDS BENEFITING LITTLE

FLOWER - Please continue to support LFC

by purchasing Stop & Shop or Shop Rite

cards! Call or text Julie at 908-578-3371

OR leave a message at the rectory, 464-1585. Always

available, painless way to donate to Little Flower,

$25.00 each. Donate one to the Little Flower Food

Pantry, the homeless ministry or to a charity of your

choice.

BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY NEEDS MEMBERS

Looking for a way to give back to the Lord? The

Bereavement Ministry serves the parish and supports

individuals and families who grieve the death of a

loved one. We plan the Mass of Remembrance, the

Blue Christmas Prayer Service and the Loss of Child

Prayer Service. We also send cards and deliver a

comfort bag to the family contact of the deceased and

organize the bereavement support groups offered

twice a year. (We do not attend the support

group.) We meet the 2nd Monday of each month

from September through May. Our monthly meetings are no longer than one hour. Please contact Mariana

Terrezza or Maria Politano at:

[email protected] or call 908-665-9056 for

more information.

Altar Linens Preparation Ministry

Currently, two ladies from Little Flower

prepare the Altar Linens, rotating every other

week. This “Labor of Love”, done in the privacy of

your own home, consists of soaking linens, then

washing and ironing. A brief training will be offered.

We are looking to grow this ministry and share the

Blessings. Several volunteers are desperately needed

to join us. This would allow each person to rotate

every six to eight weeks, depending on the number of

angels who say “yes” to this calling to share our time

for our Faith. This at-home ministry is a perfect

opportunity for people who want to serve the parish

amidst a busy schedule. If you feel the call, please

contact Margaret at [email protected].

God Bless you for considering this ministry!

AROUND TOWN

Join us for this opportunity to reflect on

The Holy Year of Mercy: A Faith-Sharing

With Reflections by Pope Francis

A modern application of Mercy!

Pope Francis has focused on the theme of God’s mercy

since the beginning of his pontificate and has declared

an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. The Holy Year of Mercy: A Faith-Sharing: With Reflections by Pope Francis is an opportunity to participate in this holy year

in a meaningful way. This faith sharing is a reflection

on how to apply mercy in your daily life. Each of the

sessions features a Gospel passage followed by a homily

on that passage given by Pope Francis. Group questions

for reflection and discussion focus on both the Scripture

text and the homily. Related Scripture passages are

included, as well as an action step that can be used in

your life to grow in the practice and understanding of

God’s mercy and His relationship with us. Pope Francis

wants the Church to become an oasis of mercy for all.
