Early Years of The Church

In the 1960s Anton LaVey formed a group called the Order of the Trapezoid, which later became the governing body of the Church of Satan in 1966.

First Satanic marriage of Judith Case and journalist John Raymond was widely publicized

First Satanic baptism was performed by LeVay for his daughter Zeena.

In 1975 LaVey phased out the Church's "Grotto" system due to people abusing it as an accomplishment for success in the outside world.

(A Grotto is a secret association or gathering of Satanists for social and ritual activities within a similar geographical distance)

Middle Years of The Church

Large number of media reported criminal conspiracies linking the Church to satanic ritual killings.

Led to “Satanic Panic” which led the FBI to become involved and issued an official report refuting any conspiracy theory

Zeena LaVey was the High Priestess and the spokesperson for the Church in the 1980’s

In 1990 Zeena publicly renounced the Church of Satan after become disillusioned with the Church

The Book of Belial Details rituals and magic used in formal ceremonies Defines magic as: "The change in situations or

events in accordance with one's will, which would, using normally accepted methods, be unchangeable.“

Three types of rituals: sex, compassion, and destruction

Sex rituals work to entice another person; compassion rituals work to improve health, intelligence, or success and destruction rituals work to destroy another person

The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth 1. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear

them.3. When in another's lair, show them respect or else do not go there.4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat them cruelly and without mercy.5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.6. Do not take that which does not belong to you, unless it is a burden to

the other person and they cry out to be relieved.7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to

obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.

8. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.9. Do not harm young children.10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you,

ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.
