    MINISTRY OF THE WORD

    1st Lesson: Exodus 33:12-23 Ms. Leyra Scantlebury READER: A reading from the word of God, written in Exodus Chapter 33

    beginning to read at the 12th verse.

    Moses said to the LORD, "See, you have said to me, 'Bring up this people'; but you

    have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, 'I know you

    by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.' Now if I have found favor in

    your sight, show me your ways, so that I may know you and find favor in your sight.

    Consider too that this nation is your people." He said, "My presence will go with

    you, and I will give you rest." And he said to him, "If your presence will not go, do

    not carry us up from here. For how shall it be known that I have found favor in your

    sight, I and your people, unless you go with us? In this way, we shall be distinct, I

    and your people, from every people on the face of the earth." The LORD said to

    Moses, "I will do the very thing that you have asked; for you have found favor in my

    sight, and I know you by name." Moses said, "Show me your glory, I pray." And he

  • 7

    said, "I will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim before you the

    name, 'The LORD'; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show

    mercy on whom I will show mercy. But," he said, "you cannot see my face; for no

    one shall see me and live." And the LORD continued, "See, there is a place by me

    where you shall stand on the rock; and while my glory passes by I will put you in a

    cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by; then I will

    take away my hand, and you shall see my back; but my face shall not be seen."

    The word of the Lord ALL : Thanks be to God

    Psalm 99 Page 597 (BCP)

    (Congregation remain seated)

    1. The LORD is King; let the people tremble; * he is enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth shake.

    2. The LORD is great in Zion; * he is high above all peoples.

    3. Let them confess his Name, which is great and awesome; * he is the Holy One.

    4. "O mighty King, lover of justice, you have established equity; * you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob."

    5. Proclaim the greatness of the LORD our God and fall down before his footstool; * he is the Holy One.

    6. Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among those who call upon his Name, * they called upon the LORD, and he answered them.

    7. He spoke to them out of the pillar of cloud; * they kept his testimonies and the decree that he gave them.

    8. O LORD our God, you answered them indeed; * you were a God who forgave them, yet punished them for their evil deeds.

    9. Proclaim the greatness of the LORD our God and worship him upon his holy hill; * for the LORD our God is the Holy One.

    Glory be to the Father, and to the Son:* and to the Holy Spirit

    As it was in the beginning is now *and ever shall be, world without end….Amen

    2nd Lesson: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10 Ms. Marianne Greenidge READER:A reading from the word of God, written in 1 Thessalonians Chapter 1, beginning to read at the 1st verse. Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace. We always give thanks to God for all of you and mention you in our prayers, constantly remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. For we know, brothers and sisters beloved by God, that he has chosen you, because our message of the gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of persons we proved to be among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for in spite of persecution you received the word with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith in God has become known, so that we have no need to speak about it. For the people of those regions report about us what kind of welcome we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead--Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath that is coming. The word of the Lord

    ALL : Thanks be to God

    Gradual Hymn: CPWI 529 1. Lord, the light of your love is shining, in the midst of the darkness, shining: Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us; set us free by the truth you now bring us — shine on me, shine on me.

    Refrain: Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father's glory; blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire. Flow, river flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy; send forth your word, Lord and let there be light!

  • 9

    2. Lord, I come to your awesome presence, from the shadows into your radiance; by your blood I may enter your brightness: search me, try me, consume all my darkness — shine on me, shine on me. Refrain: Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father's glory; blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire. Flow, river flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy; send forth your word, Lord and let there be light!

    (Final verse after Gospel)

    The Gospel: Matthew 22:15-22

    PRIEST: The Lord be with you

    ALL: And also with you

    PRIEST: The Holy Gospel according to Matthew Chapter 22

    beginning to read at the 15th verse

    ALL : Glory to Christ our Saviour

    Then the Pharisees went and plotted to entrap Jesus in what he said. So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and teach the way of God in accordance with truth, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard people with partiality. Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor, or not?" But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why are you putting me to the test, you hypocrites? Show me the coin used for the tax." And they brought him a denarius. Then he said to them, "Whose head is this, and whose title?" They answered, "The emperor's." Then he said to them, "Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor's, and to God the things that are God's." When they heard this, they were amazed; and they left him and went away.

    PRIEST :This is the Gospel of Christ

    ALL: Praise to Christ our Lord

    Gradual Hymn: CPWI 529 (Final Verse) 3. As we gaze on your kingly brightness so our faces display your likeness, ever changing from glory to glory: mirrored here, may our lives tell your story — shine on me, shine on me. Refrain: Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father's glory; blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire. Flow, river flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy; send forth your word, Lord and let there be light!

    THE SERMON:

    The Nicene Creed Page 104 (BCP) We believe in one God,

    the Father, the Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth,

    of all that is seen or unseen.

    We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

    the only Son of God,

    eternally begotten of the Father,

    God from God, Light from Light,

    true God from true God,

    begotten, not made,

    one in Being with the Father.

    Through him all things were made.

    For us and for our salvation

    he came down from heaven:

    by the power of the Holy Spirit

    he was born of the Virgin Mary,

    and became man.

    For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

  • 11

    he suffered, died and was buried.

    On the third day he rose again

    in fulfilment of the Scriptures;

    He ascended into heaven

    and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

    He will come again in glory to judge

    the living and the dead,

    and his kingdom will have no end.

    We believe in the Holy Spirit,

    the Lord, the giver of life,

    who proceeds from the Father.

    With the Father and the Son

    he is worshipped and glorified.

    He has spoken through the Prophets.

    We believe in one holy catholic

    and apostolic Church.

    We acknowledge one baptism

    for the forgiveness of sins.

    We look for the resurrection of the dead.

    and the life of the world to come.

    Amen.

    because in your loving wisdom

    you brought all things into being,

    and are truly worthy of praise

    from every creature you have made.

    He broke it and gave it to his disciples

    and said: "Take this, and eat it:

    "This is my Body which is given for you.

    "Do this for the remembrance of me."

    And after supper

    He took the cup of wine:

    and when He had given thanks,

    He gave it to them and said:

    "Drink this, all of you:

    "This is my Blood of the New Covenant,

    "which is shed for you and for many

    "for the forgiveness of sins.

    "Whenever you drink it,

    "do this for the remembrance of me."

    FORM C

    PRESIDENT Draw near and receive the Body and blood of our Saviour Jesus Christ with faith and thanksgiving. ALL We do not presume to come to this your table, most merciful Father, trusting in our own righteousness, but only in your boundless mercy. We are not even worthy to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the Lord ever the same, ever merciful. Grant therefore Lord of grace and love that we may so eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and drink his blood that with bodies and souls made clean from every stain of sin we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us.

    The Administration of Communion:

    During the service your mask must be worn at all times and should cover both your

    nose and your mouth. If you are receiving Holy Communion, after turning away from

    the Celebrant, simply slip your mask up to consume the Host and replace

    immediately. Your hands will be sanitized afterwards.

    Communion Hymn: MP 1019 1. You are my strength when I am weak, You are the treasure that I seek, You are my all in all; seeking You as a precious jewel, Lord, to give up I'd be a fool, You are my all in all.

    Refrain:

    Jesus, Lamb of God,

    worthy is your name;

    Jesus, Lamb of God,

    worthy is your name.

    2. Taking my sin, my cross, my shame,

    rising again, I bless Your name,

    You are my all in all;

    when I fall down You pick me up,

    when I am dry You fill my cup,

    You are my all in all.

    Refrain:

    Jesus, Lamb of God,

    worthy is your name;

    Jesus, Lamb of God,

    worthy is your name.

    Communion Hymn: CPWI 447 1. I love to tell the story

    of unseen things above,

    of Jesus and his glory,

    of Jesus and his love.

    I love to tell the story,

    because I know it’s true;

    it satisfies my longings

    as nothing else would do.

    Refrain:

    I love to tell the story;

    ‘twill be my theme in glory,

    to tell the old, old story

    of Jesus and his love.

    2. I love to tell the story,

    for those who know it best

    seem hungering and thirsting

    to hear it, like the rest.

    And when, in scenes of glory,

    I sing the new, new song,

    ‘twill be the old, old story

    that I have loved so long.

    Refrain:

    I love to tell the story;

    ‘twill be my theme in glory,

    to tell the old, old story

    of Jesus and his love.

    Communion Hymn: CPWI 531 1. My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine,

    For Thee all the pleasures of sin I resign;

    My gracious Redeemer, my Saviour art Thou

    If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now!

  • 28

    2. I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me,

    And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree;

    I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow,

    If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.

    3. I’ll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death,

    And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath,

    And say,when the death-dew lies cold on my brow,

    If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.

    4. In mansions of glory and endless delight,

    I’ll ever adore Thee in Heaven so bright;

    I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow,

    If ever I love Thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.

    During the singing of the next hymn, all children who are not confirmed

    are invited to stand in place for a Blessing.

    Hymn for the Blessing: CPWI 851 Each verse is repeated. 1. Seek ye first the kingdom of God,

    and his righteousness,

    and all these things shall be added unto you.

    Allelu, alleluia.

    2. Man shall not live by bread alone,

    but by every word

    that proceeds from the mouth of God.

    Allelu, alleluia.

    3. Ask and it shall be given unto you,

    seek and ye shall find;

    knock and the door shall be opened up to you.

    Allelu, alleluia.

    Hymn of Eucharistic Thanksgiving: CPWI 564 1. Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,

    when the clouds unfold their wings of strife?

    When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,

    will your anchor drift, or firm remain?

  • 31

    Refrain: We have an anchor that keeps the soul steadfast and sure while the billows roll; fastened to the rock which cannot move, grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love! 2. Will your anchor hold in the straits of fear, when the breakers roar and the reef is near? While the surges rage, and the wild winds blow, shall the angry waves then your bark o’erflow? Refrain: We have an anchor that keeps the soul steadfast and sure while the billows roll; fastened to the rock which cannot move, grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love! 3. Will your anchor hold in the floods of death, when the waters cold chill your latest breath? On the rising tide you can never fail, While your anchor holds, within the veil.

    Refrain: We have an anchor that keeps the soul steadfast and sure while the billows roll; fastened to the rock which cannot move, grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love! 4. Will your eyes behold through the morning light, the city of gold and the harbor bright? Will you anchor safe by the heavenly shore, When life’s storms are past for evermore? Refrain: We have an anchor that keeps the soul steadfast and sure while the billows roll; fastened to the rock which cannot move, grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!

    Breast Cancer Awareness Month

    Symptoms

    Breast cancer can present with various symptoms and some individuals may

    have no symptoms at all. Symptoms can include:

    Any change in the size or the shape of the breast.

    Pain in any area of the breast.

    Nipple discharge other than breast milk (including blood).

    A new lump in the breast or underarm.

    You should consult a physician right away if you have any signs that worry

    you. Did you know that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her

    lifetime? While you can’t usually prevent cancer, it is important to be proactive

    about your health.

    When you’re told that you have breast cancer, it’s natural to wonder what may have

    caused the disease. But no one knows the exact causes of breast cancer. Doctors sel-

    dom know why one woman develops breast cancer and another doesn’t, and most

    women who have breast cancer will never be able to pinpoint an exact cause. What

    we do know is that breast cancer is always caused by damage to a cell’s DNA.

    Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Wear PINK on Sunday, October 25th and support the cause to find a cure.
