HLBC Church Covenant Affirmation (Bi-Monthly)

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive Jesus Christ as the Lord, Savior, and supreme Treasure of our lives, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized by immersion in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully re-affirm our covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit,

a. To walk together in Christian love, b. To strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness and peace; c. To promote its spirituality and fruitfulness; d. To support its worship, ordinances, ministries and discipline; e. To welcome instruction from the Scriptures by the Pastors of the church, as it pertains only to the Word of God; f. To align ourselves in word and deed with the Holy Scriptures, God's Word, as we seek to grow toward biblical unity in Spirit and Truth; g. To prayerfully, regularly and cheerfully contribute financially to the support of the ministry, and expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel, beginning in our neighborhood and through all nations.

We also engage:

h. To maintain family and personal devotions; to educate our children in the Christian faith; i. To seek the salvation of our family and acquaintances;

1. To live a Godly life before the world; 2. To be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in

our deportment, 3. To avoid all tattling, gossiping backbiting and excessive anger; 4. To seek God’s help in abstaining from all drugs, intoxicating drink, and

practices that bring un-warranted harm to the body of Christ or jeopardize our own or another’s faith.

We further engage:

j. To watch over one another in brotherly love; k. To remember one another in prayer; l. To aid one another in sickness and distress; m. To cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; n. To be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the command of our Savior to secure it without delay.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE WEEK

DEACON FUND! Whenever we observe The Lord’s Supper a collection is taken for the Deacon’s Fund. This fund is to help members of the church who may need assistance. You will find the Deacon’s Fund envelopes in the pew back in front of you, please place in the plate when the regular offering is taken.

The class that brings in the most items for the month will get a special baked surprise from Susan Storie! The Disciplemaker’s Class was the winner for April. We are focusing, as a church, on the 5 - 9 year old age group (both boys and girls). Please bring gifts appropriate for that age child. Thank you.

WE NEED YOU for our neighborhood blitz to tell the neighborhood about VBS. Come one, come all on 17 June at 9:00 a.m. If you can’t help by walking, we need you to drive out teams and keep them supplied with door hangers and water.

The pre-registration event will be 24 June from 10:00 - 2:00 and will have food and several fun activities and prizes to bring the children in.

Vacation Bible School will be from 25 June - 29 June with celebration night on the 30th. We need as many people as possible to help with all of these events. If you can help in any capacity or for more information contact Tina Phillips at [email protected].

June 2017

11th - S.S. Leadership Meeting/ Chris Woodie’s Ordination 17th - Neighborhood Blitz (Walkers and Drivers needed!) 18th - Father’s Day 24th - Vacation Bible School Pre-Registration Event 25 - 30 - Vacation Bible School (Operation Arctic)

Some of our Southern Baptist Pastors have served in smaller churches and received very little or no pay. Most worked where there were no retirement benefits. Most

retired pastors, missionaries, and lay leaders are living on a very limited income and struggle to make ends meet. We will be receiving an offering (envelopes can be found in the pew back) from Mother’s Day through Father’s Day to assist these servants of God. Please make your check out to Baptist Foundation of SC-Mother’s Day. If you include it in your regular offering envelope please designated for “Mother’s Day Offering”. For more information go to www.scbma.com or call 803.227.6058.

Chris Woodie will be ordained into the Gospel ministry of Jesus Christ on 11 June 2017 at 6:00 p.m. here at Harbour Lake. He has been called to lead worship at Tall Pines Baptist. We are excited for him and his family and wish to support them in this walk. We will be having a Finger Food

reception following the ceremony in the fellowship hall. Since this is in the evening, please keep it to finger foods and desserts.
