The Chronicle 1 The Chronicle Hello, I’m Jacob Stayner, I am the current active President of the fraternity. For the active chapter, in its current form, I see so much potential for what is already a strong brotherhood. Spring semester was full of insight and new beginnings for many of our brothers. Coming off a successful recruitment and new member education pro- gram, we had four new members go active during the spring. Truly a class that shows quality over quantity, they have already found themselves serving as leaders within the chapter on our executive board. A strong effort was put into raising our community service efforts in the spring, and I’m very proud of the chapter for all the amazing work they have ac- complished. Two of our brothers received presidential awards for their service. One received a bronze award, and another received a gold award for putting in nearly 500 hours of community service! As some may already know, Relay for Life has been gone for a year now on campus. Currently, we are attempting to bring it back. It is an event that many keep close to heart, and to provide people with the opportunity to experi- ence something like this is truly special. We look forward to continuing our communi- ty service efforts into the fall, and are hopeful to have Relay for Life back in the spring. Recruitment is currently underway, which means we will have new brothers soon! is is a very exciting time to be in Kings, as we have hopes that this will be one of the most successful rushes we’ve had in a long time. Small a chapter we may be, we are certainly mighty in our presence. Our active chapter has done a wonderful job of getting involved in a variety of organizations, meaning that our upcoming class will likely be very diverse and bring many new perspectives to the Fraternity. We would love to see alumni come out for homecoming, our rush party, and final dinner. It’s a great opportunity to not only reconnect with the chapter, but to help the potential new knights see how deep our brotherhood runs. As always, if you have any questions feel free to reach out to me with my contact information listed below. Hail Kings! Jacob Stayner President [email protected] is semester has been focused on rebuilding our social presence on campus and recruitment. With the coming of the new fall semester of 2017, we have many new features in the new member education program planned. First, we are excited to bring in a new Knight class to the chapter who will strengthen our numbers and grow to be strong and prosperous Kingsmen. I am working hard to make sure the program I’ve constructed further instill values and the ideals of the Fraternity. We have a new Greek advisor here at Otterbein as well. Her name is Ashely Secord and she has expressed to us how im-pressed she has been with our chapter and we are looking forward to working with her during this semester’s program. Our Exec. Board plans to have a meeting with her soon, since she is new to the campus, and really just show her the good guys that we are. The chapter this semester will hopefully play a more significant role throughout this program, as well as Alumni who we plan to incorporate. We have planned a history night (seen above) where Alumni can over to not only meet the Knights, but to share stories and knowledge of the chapter in the past with Knights and Actives alike. Our Vice President, Joe Rigsby, will be in contact to help set up these important events. As the Chancellor, I am very excited to present these new opportunities and updates and hope that you will be able to come around to experience them for yourself! Hail Kings!

After coming into office, I have been striving to strengthen the brotherhood even further. The summer retreat in Hocking Hills went very well, continuing a strong tradition maintaining and uplifting the bonds between our members. In the cabin, brothers were able to go fishing, watch movies, hang out in the hot tub, and grill some hot dogs! This weekend of relaxation was well deserved after the success of our spring semester and that of the last renaissance program. We had fun over the summer. We had people in and out of the house, and we focused on some of our more time intensive projects such as fixing up the boat and repainting the rooms. All in all, summer was a productive time, many of our members also spent their summer at exciting internships and career building opportunities. One of our Actives, Nathan Tarr, even travelled as far as Madagascar for an internship. Looking ahead, I am very excited for the future. Under the leadership of our new president, I think the bonds between our members will be stronger than ever. I plan to have brotherhoods every week to strengthen those bonds, and work on ways to solve conflicts. We’re looking at a great time in the chapter where there are many highly dedicated members, as well as plenty of room to grow our numbers. We’ve already had a few rushing events that have been able to bring in new people into the house. I think that this will be an amazing opportunity to grow the brotherhood. As an ending note, I would like to say, even though I am fairly new in the Fraternity I already feel like joining ΛΓΕ was the best decision I have made. Hail Kings!

    Vice President Report

When I started this position, if you look back to my last Chronicle entry, I was very optimistic as to what I could accom-plish within this chapter, and for the most part, I’m pretty proud of the Vice President I was able to be. I made it a goal to reach out to more Alumni than my last term, I worked with the chancellor to help coordinate events during the next Pledge cycle that Alumni may attend, and met frequently with our President to advise him through several discussions. I hate to talk outside my position, but since the new rush cycle is well-underway, a lot of our efforts, no matter where you are positioned on the Exec. Board, revolve around making this process run smoothly. Specifically, I have been trying since the start of this semester to make Alumni aware of the upcoming rush events (Final Dinner, the Rush Party, etc) that we have coming up – be looking for those on the Alumni Facebook group, you may also find those special dates at the beginning of this Chronicle on the right-hand side. As I mentioned in my previous entry last April, this position does still require an immense amount of written articulation. However, I wanted to try to show, not only to alumni, but to other individuals on campus the way members within Kings conduct themselves, specifically those in leadership positions. I can say without a doubt that is a goal we all share in Kings– to be the best we can be, to exemplify strength, chivalry, and what it means to be respectful. Thanks again for reading - Hail Kings!

The summer went by without a hitch as far as the house goes this year, which we are all counting as a blessing. The new carpet still looks great and the current six residents (plus Rio; the house tripod/dog) are doing great at keeping the place respect-able and stand among the nicest Themed Housing residences at Otterbein. We recently had the new Greek Director over and she said our house was by far one of the better kept of all the Fraternity houses she had seen that day. Several members of the fraternity were out and about doing great things this past summer so projects kind of fell by the wayside, but we hope to get moving on a few projects here soon, which include repainting the crest in front of the house, up-grading the Wi-Fi for residents, and fixing up the parking lot. The house has changed quite a bit in the last few years so if you haven’t been around in a while you should come check it out! We love showing around aAlumni because we’re pretty proud of our meeting place. If you’d like to come over shoot anyone a message on Facebook or email and we can make sure some guys are around to hang out. If you have any nice furniture you’re looking to get rid of as well, please email or message me as we’re always looking to see if we can cycle out some furniture. Thank you,

This house belongs to all members of this Fraternity, both young and old. Itis our main headquarters, it is where we bond, where we develop such deep fraternalconnections. That being said, this summer we plan to finish several projectscentered around rennovating the grounds and parking lot of the current House at 94W Park St. If you would like to donate to help us re-gravel the parking lot, fix up ourgardens, level the tiles, repaint the crest, and work on several other projects, pleasecontact Joe Rigsby for more information. Be sure to watch on our Facebook page forupdates throughout the summer of the progress we have made! We wouldn’t beable to do this without you.

Thank you, again, for any and all consideration regarding contributionsmade towards our Fraternity.
