This Sunday - Youth Sunday, Camp Sign-Up Sunday & All-Church Potluck
Make plans to join us this Sunday for Youth Sunday & the All‐Church Potluck!
This is our annual service where the youth of the church will lead us in worship, sacrament, and preaching. This year, our sermons – yes 2! – will be delivered by Seniors Lee Beggs and Elizabeth Cook. Many of our other youth will also be sharing at the table, during the prayer time, through song, and during the children’s sermon. You won’t want to miss it!

This week’s sermon will be delivered by our Youth
Luke 15:11‐32
Lent arrived when I needed it most. The impending sacrifice of the cross put my hurting and doubt in proper perspective. The hope and promise of an empty tomb reminded me of the source and capacity of God’s amazing love. This Lent was more than
theological reminders and liturgical exercises.
Many of you walked with us during the Sunday School hour. The discipline of spiritual formation is not easy, even at fifteen minutes a day. Still, many of you did that, and more, and came each week to share and to listen. This past Sunday at our final meeting, as you shared your personal discoveries, I was affirmed this path was the correct one for us in this season.
Maundy Thursday’s Upper Room was meaningful. All five Midland‐Odessa Disciples congregations came together around the common table of our Lord. The music, the drama, the silence…it all spoke to me.
I was quiet most of Friday, a little under the weather and a little under the weight of the gift of Good Friday. Several text or emailed me about their Prayer Vigil moments. The new access system to the Chapel seemed to work.
Scores of dedicated church folks spent many hours setting up Hill Park as a Saturday evangelism station disguised as an Easter egg hunt. Hundreds of children came and some of those families were here on Sunday. This second year’s successes seemed to confirm how it is a good thing for us to be out and active in our community beyond these walls.
Lent’s promise of Easter morning was good and rich at every turn. I cherished my ten minutes of quiet in the courtyard just before the Sunrise service began. I kept looking back and forth from the empty tomb to the outline of our steeple, sensing somehow their connection. It was my God moment of the day.
God’s outpouring through and in you wonderful people of First Christian Church did its powerful work.
I know, because of the powerful work you did in me.
My promise is to help us all linger and share the amazing gift of Easter…today, tomorrow, and beyond.
Thank you is such a small phrase for the overwhelming gratitude I owe all of you for this special season.
As we move forward, let us not forget our grounding to that empty tomb and the promise the resurrection is true.

This Sunday, our young people will lead us in worship, sacrament, and preaching. While we, as a youth ministry and a church, value the involvement of youth in every
worship service and in all facets of the life of the church, there is still a special place for these kinds of days. It gives our youth a chance to share their stories and their gifts in a special way. It gives the rest of us the opportunity to see them in action and get to know them a little better. It helps us all to grow in our relationships with and understanding of God. We all know Paul’s famous words to Timothy about youth: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” – 1 Timothy 4:12 This scripture is often used just about any time that youth are involved in leading. Yet, we fail to keep reading… “Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift…” – 1 Timothy 4:13‐14 Youth Sunday gives our youth the chance to make good on the second half of that scripture…the chance to use and nurture their gifts. I hope you will be here to show them your support and to hear what God might have to say to you through them…

First Christian Church’s 2nd Annual Easter Egg‐Stravaganza was a huge success because of the hard work, servant’s heart, and willingness to reach out by all
who participated. Whether you donated Easter eggs, bought hot dogs, wore a pink bunny suit, helped with registration, organized and arranged the egg hunts, held up signs, greeted others outside our church or managed the jumper, each and every person was an integral part of making the Easter Egg‐Stravaganza happen.
We have already started brainstorming for next year and we are eager to improve on this free gift to the community.
Thank you again to the countless number of people who made this a great success!

Campership Funds Needed
As you can see, the summer camping season will be quickly upon us. This also means a greater need for camperships (scholarships for camps). The church has already budgeted to cover 50% of the cost of every camp; however, some of our families need additional assistance to cover all or part of the remaining 50%. The resources available to meet these needs are running low. Please consider making a gift to the campership fund and helping one of our
children or youth experience camp this summer!

Christmas-In-Action WHEN: Beginning Tuesday 26 April continuing thru the
official workday Saturday 30 April at 8am. WHERE: 313 East Magnolia
Each year First Christian Church takes on the responsibility of helping to improve
the living conditions of a family in Midland that is financially and physically challenged to maintain the livability of
their home. CIA has recently replaced the roof. We will continue to weatherize the house by removing the dilapidated siding and windows beginning on Tuesday, April
26. Working thru the week we will prepare for the new siding to be installed on Saturday as well as most of the windows. This will entail much needed caulking and painting. Everyone is invited to help and there is plenty to do no matter what your skill level or age. Remember you are entering a construction site of an older building. Hazards are possible. Proper attire and attention to potential exposure to dust and
surroundings are advised.
Summer Office Angel Needed
June 16th and 17th the church office will be needing an office angel. If you are able to
commit to one day or both days, please let the church office know.
