INTRODUCTORY RITES ENTRANCE HYMN

You Are Mine by David Haas I will come to you in the silence, I will lift you from all your fear. You will hear my voice, I claim you as my choice, be still and know I am near. I am hope for all who are hopeless, I am eyes for all who long to see. In the shadows of the night, I will be your light, come and rest in me. Do not be afraid I am with you, I have called you each by name. Come and follow me, I will bring you home, I love you and you are mine I am strength for all the despairing, healing for the ones who dwell in shame. All the blind will see, and the lame will all run free, and all will know my name. Do not be afraid ... I am the Word that brings all to freedom, I am the Peace the world cannot give. I will call your name, embracing all your pain, stand up now, walk and live. Do not be afraid ...

OPENING PRAYER

Priest: [Let us pray]

Almighty God, our Father, we firmly believe that your Son died and rose to life. We pray for our brother, Douglas, who has died in Christ. Raise him at the last day to share the glory of the risen Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

All: Amen. LITURGY OF THE WORD A READING FROM THE BOOK OF WISDOM

Anthony Pain

He accepted them as a holocaust.

The souls of the virtuous are in the hands of God, no torment shall ever touch them. In the eyes of the unwise, they did appear to die, their going looked like a disaster, their leaving us, like annihilation; but they are in peace. If they experienced punishment as men see it, their hope was rich with immortality; slight was their affliction; great will their blessings be. God has put them to the test and proved them worthy to be with him; he has tested them like gold in a furnace, and accepted them as a holocaust. When the time comes for his visitation, they will shine out; as sparks run through the stubble, so will they. They shall judge nations, rule over peoples, and the Lord will be their king forever. They who trust in him will understand the truth, those who are faithful will live with him in love; for grace and mercy await those he has chosen.

The Word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM (Psalm 23)

The Lord Is My Shepherd

The Lord is my Shepherd And I want to follow Wherever He leads me Wherever He goes Over the mountains The water and byways Valleys and Highways He’s waiting for me I want to go to meet Him there To lay myself down in His love The Lord is my Shepherd And I want to follow Wherever He leads me, wherever He goes. A READING FROM PAUL TO TIMOTHY

Sequoia Frissard

The time is here for me to leave this life. I have done my best in the race, I have run the full distance and I have kept the faith. And now, there is waiting for me the prize of victory awarded for a good life, the prize the Lord will give me and not only to me, but to all those who wait with love for God to appear. The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Alleluia, Alleluia!

I am the Resurrection and the Life, says the Lord: he who believes in me will not die for ever. Alleluia.

GOSPEL (John 14:1‐6)

Priest: The Lord be with you. All: And with your spirit.

Priest: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John. All: Glory to you, Lord. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God still, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house; if there was not, I should have told you. I am going now to prepare a place for you, and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you with me, so that where I am you may be too. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said: “Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” Priest: The Gospel of the Lord.

All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

PREFACE

Priest: The Lord be with you. All:

And with your spirit.

Priest: Lift up your hearts. All:

We lift them up to the Lord.

Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All: It is right and just.

Father, all‐powerful and ever‐living God, we do well always and

everywhere to give you thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord.

In him who rose from the dead, our hope of resurrection dawned.

The sadness of death gives way to the bright promise of

immortality. Lord, for your faithful people life is changed, not

ended. When the body of our earthly dwelling lies in death, we gain

an everlasting dwelling place in heaven.

And so, with all the choirs of angels in heaven we proclaim your

glory and join in their unending hymn of praise.

All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power of might. Heaven

and earth are full of your glory Hosanna in the

highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the

Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II

Priest: Father, you are holy indeed, the fountain of all

holiness. Let your Spirit come upon these gifts to make

them holy, so that they may become for us the body

and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Before he was given up to death, a death he freely

accepted, he took bread and gave you thanks. He

broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:

TAKE THIS ALL OF YOU AND EAT IT; THIS IS

MY BODY WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.

When supper was ended, he took the cup. Again, he

gave you thanks and praise, gave the cup to his

disciples, and said:

TAKE THIS ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT: THIS IS THE CUP OF MY BLOOD, THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND EVERLASTING COVENANT. IT WILL BE SHED FOR YOU AND FOR ALL, SO THAT SINS MAY BE FORGIVEN. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

Priest: Let us proclaim the mystery of faith: All: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come

again.

Priest:

In memory of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Father, this life‐giving bread, this saving cup. We thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you.

May all of us who share in the body and blood of Christ be brought together in unity by the Holy Spirit.

Lord, remember your Church throughout the world; make us grow in love, together with Francis our Pope, Peter our Bishop and all the clergy.

Remember Douglas, whom you have called from this life. In baptism he died with Christ; may he also share his resurrection. Remember our brothers and sisters who have gone to their rest in the hope of rising again; bring them and all the departed into the light of your presence. Have mercy on us all; make us worthy to share eternal life with Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, with the apostles, and with all the saints who have done your will throughout the ages. May we praise you in union with them, and give you glory through your Son, Jesus Christ.

Through Him, with Him, in Him in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honour is yours Almighty Father, forever and ever.

All: Amen.

COMMUNION RITE THE LORD’S PRAYER

Priest: Let us pray with confidence to the Father in the words our Saviour gave us.

All:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Priest: Deliver us, from every evil, and grant us peace in our day. In your mercy keep us free from sin and protect us from all anxiety as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

All: For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever.

SIGN OF PEACE

Priest: Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles: I leave

you peace, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom where you live for ever and ever.

All: Amen. Priest: The peace of the Lord be with you always. All: And also with you. Priest: Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

REFLECTION OF DOUGLAS’S LIFE

The Gambler – Kenny Rogers

On a warm summer's evening On a train bound for nowhere I met up with the gambler We were both too tired to sleep So we took turns a-starin' Out the window at the darkness The boredom overtook us And he began to speak He said, "Son, I've made a life Out of readin' people's faces Knowin' what the cards were By the way they held their eyes So if you don't mind my sayin' I can see you're out of aces For a taste of your whiskey I'll give you some advice"

So I handed him my bottle And he drank down my last swallow Then he bummed a cigarette And asked me for a light And the night got deathly quiet And his face lost all expression Said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy You gotta learn to play it right You've got to know when to hold 'em Know when to fold 'em Know when to walk away And know when to run You never count your money When you're sittin' at the table There'll be time enough for countin' When the dealin's done Every gambler knows That the secret to survivin' Is knowin' what to throw away And knowin' what to keep 'Cause every hand's a winner And every hand's a loser And the best that you can hope for Is to die in your sleep" And when he'd finished speakin' He turned back toward the window Crushed out his cigarette Faded off to sleep And somewhere in the darkness The gambler he broke even But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep

You've got to know when to hold 'em Know when to fold 'em Know when to walk away And know when to run You never count your money When you're sittin' at the table There'll be time enough for countin' When the dealin's done FINAL COMMENDATION

Priest: Before we go our separate ways, let us take leave of our brother. May our farewell express our affection for him, may it ease our sadness and strengthen our hope. One day we shall joyfully greet him, when the love of Christ, which conquers all things, destroys even death itself.

SONG OF FAREWELL

Priest: Saints of God, come to his aid! Hasten to meet his, angels

of the Lord. All:

Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High.

Priest: May Christ, who called you, take you to himself; may angels lead you to the bosom of Abraham.

All:

Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High.

Priest: Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him.

All: Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High.

PRAYER OF COMMENDATION Priest: Into your hands, Father of mercies, we commend our

brother Douglas, in the sure and certain hope that, together with all who have died in Christ, he will rise with Him on the last day. Merciful Lord, turn to us and listen to our prayers, open the gates of paradise to your servant and help us who remain to comfort one another with the assurances of faith, until we all meet in Christ and are with you and with our brother for ever.

All:

Amen.

Priest: May the angels lead you into paradise, may the martyrs come to welcome you and take you into the holy city, the new and eternal Jerusalem. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

All: Amen. RECESSIONAL HYMN

Till We Meet Again – Bing Crosby & Patti Page

Smile the while you kiss me sad adieu, When the clouds roll by, I'll come to you, Then the skies will seem more blue Down lovers' lane, my dearie, Wedding bells will sing so merrily Every tear will be a memory, So wait and pray each, each night for me 'Til we meet again.
