Mount Airy's Carolina Environmental Contracting Celebrates 20 Years in Civil Contracting Services

Carolina Environmental Contracting (CEC) is proudly celebrating its 20th anniversary as an industry leaderin civil contracting services. Founded by Joanne Cheatham in 1991, CEC has earned a proven reputationfor responding rapidly and professionally to the changing needs of erosion control on commercial construc-tion sites.

Despite challenging economic times, Carolina Environmental Contracting (CEC) is proudly celebrating its20th anniversary as an industry leader in civil contracting services. Building on their initial success of sedi-ment control fence installation, CEC has significantly expanded its services to tackle almost any environ-mental demand on commercial construction projects.

Founded by Joanne Cheatham in 1991, CEC has earned a proven reputation for responding rapidly andprofessionally to the changing needs of erosion control on commercial construction sites. CEC provides awide and expanding range of civil contracting services including installation of extensive sediment controlsystems, stream restoration, wetland development, vegetation establishment, and fence construction.Cheatham credits her team of experienced and dedicated employees, many of whom have been with herfor more than 10 years, for her company’s success and growth.

“Our employees made the difference from the very start,” she said from her Mount Airy, NC office. “I amproud to say that we have maintained a committed team that goes beyond the obvious to find the bestpossible solution while always identifying the most time and cost effective approaches to environmentalissues we encounter everyday on large construction sites.”

CEC continues to serve the commercial construction industry through installation of sediment controlmeasures but has expanded by successfully tackling new challenges and installations designed to complywith ever changing environmental regulations and conditions on construction sites, Cheatham says.

“Although we still take on smaller projects, in the last few years we have handled much more challengingsites,” said Cheatham. CEC is currently working on a $1.3 million contract with Wake County’s WesternWake Expressway project developed by the NC Turnpike Authority. The expressway is the first US toll roadsystem designed and built to utilize an all-electronic toll collection system. CEC is involved in many otherprojects. CEC is a licensed contractor in both North and South Carolina and has a clear understanding ofthe deadlines, budgets, and environmental regulations encountered on large commercial construction pro-jects. Earning the prestigious AGC Pinnacle Award in 2007 for the best subcontractor was a clear affirma-tion by the industry of both the quality of CEC’s work and the strong caliber of service they provide.

Carolina Environmental Contracting’s reputation is built on reliable and responsible employees with a stead-fast dedication to quality of work and high caliber, turnkey commercial construction partnerships. CEC’scommitment to each project allows contractors to focus on their specialties and to rely on CEC not only forerosion control but to handle other environmental challenges and regulations as well.

Cheatham says it this way, “We know dirt.”
