MY BACKGROUND WHAT IS SCIENCE? WHAT IS TECHNOLOGY/ ENGINEERING? SUPPORTING PROGRAMS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENCE
AND TECHNOLOGY:- National Industrial growth, Government policy of making
science subjects compulsory up to O level ,UPE &USE, PE & Sports in schools, Support for Science based courses at University
- SESEMAT- Globalization
CHALLENGES FACING THE TEACHING OF SCIENCE:- Some misconceptions/ wrong attitudes : production jobs like
brick making are considered for failures, degrees and certificates matter more than production, girls are not meant for Science, science is for whites and very difficult
- Schooling without production- Noninvolvement of the Environment in the teaching and
learning process.- Failure to integrate the existing world of science into the school
system- Emphasis on Examinations rather than learning and
transformation- Few Science Teachers and misuse of the few ( Mungopacking)- Un assertive scientists/ engineers - Ill equipped teacher:
