Editor's Notes
WHO ARE WE?
We noticed the media never shows the realities of homelessness. The “news” usually shows homeless camps being bulldozed by the city or as a problem for a neighborhood. One never sees the very clean and ordered camps that exist.
An image of homelessness has been created that presents folks with backpacks hung with water bottles and wearing tacky clothing, or panhandling on the corners. The media doesn’t show the well dressed individuals that blend into mainstream America, or the families that used to be your next door neighbors, struggling with homelessness.
During Katrina the government didn’t acknowledge that the poor lacked the means to leave before the storm hit. Those with the least suffered the most. Their plight was minimized because they don ’t have money or political power, and this news does not sell.
This media driven image, of the homeless and poor being a worthless part of our consumer society, perpetuates the brutalization of this population.
The Center for Creative Chaos is out to change this image. We feel everyone deserves equal representation in our society.

The Out of The Shadows Event
Thanks for making the Out of the Shadows event on the 17th at The Center for Creative Chaos a great success. It was standing room only, with many others outside, peering in.
Many people admired the art of our homeless and formerly homeless artists. The artists in attendance were Amanda Stidham, John Anglin, Leah Beabout, Megan Pobyajlo-Bailey and Rajan Al-Moneef. Also in attendance was the well known advocacy photographer Edwina Scott showing her black and white photos of homeless woman.
The Center for Creative Chaos staff spoke to those gathered on the mission of the Center, and screened excerpts from videos produced to portray the reality of homelessness.
After the event a number of items were sold and the audience took the opportunity to mingle with the staff and artists. Black Man Clay then entertained out side the Center, and an air of conviviality and enjoyment prevailed.
