Private Pilot Certification (FAR Part 141)

The private pilot candidate will obtain their private pilot certificate after the completion of two courses, Aviation 2101 and 2102. Aviation 2101 is the first of these two courses and focuses on developing the necessary aeronautical knowledge, experience and skill to prepare the candidate for their initial solo flight. Aviation 2102 is the second course in the private pilot certification process and is concentrated on cross-country procedures and further development of aeronautical abilities. After the completion of these two courses to the current Private Pilot Practical Test Standards, the candidate will then be eligible to receive their Private Pilot Certificate with an airplane, single engine land class rating.

Note: Any and all funds that remain unused after the completion of a course may be refunded per the student’s request. * Minimum Requirements are based on FAA minimum requirements for OSU’s Part 141 curriculum. Average hours listed are calculated from the average completion time and cost of previous Ohio State Students.

Instrument Pilot Certification (FAR Part 141)

The instrument pilot candidate will obtain their instrument pilot certificate after the successful completion of Aviation 3101. During this course the student will receive in-depth knowledge of aircraft instruments, Federal Aviation Regulations, aircraft systems, navigational aids and proper instrument procedures. Aviation 3101 will also prepare the instrument candidate for flying instrument cross-country flights and instrument approaches. The completion of this course will be reached when the student performs at a level high enough to meet and exceed the Instrument Rating Practical Test Standards, governing the requirements for instrument rating certification.

Commercial Pilot Certification (FAR Part 141)

The commercial pilot candidate will obtain their commercial pilot certificate after the completion of two courses, Aviation 2501 and 4101. Aviation 2501 is the first of these two courses and focuses on building the proficiency of the candidate in primary maneuvers, cross-country flight and the systems of the Cessna 172. Aviation 4101 is the second course in the commercial pilot certification process and concentrates on developing commercial maneuvers and becoming standardized in a complex aircraft. After the completion of these two courses to the current Commercial Pilot Practical Test Standards, the candidate will then be eligible to receive their Commercial Pilot Certificate with an airplane, single engine land class rating.

Note: Any and all funds that remain unused after the completion of a course may be refunded per the student’s request. * Minimum Requirements are based on FAA minimum requirements for OSU’s Part 141 curriculum.
