What a start to our St Gregory’s Virtual School on Class Dojo. In just 3 days, a learning community was set-up and we are proud to have already had lots of activity and engagement. Thank you for your support so far. A special thanks to our teachers who spent the last few days before school closure receiving training on how to use it and preparing resources. ALos well done to all the parents and carers—you have taken on the challenge and we applaud you. Working from home and home schooling is not what any of us chose—but you’re doing a great job! Teamwork makes the dream work! We just wanted to say a huge thank you for pulling together as a whole school community: children, parents, staff, Childcare Trust and governors when we re-ceived notification that schools were going to partially close. Despite your own reservations, concerns and worries about childcare, keeping your own jobs go-ing, concerns about illness and whether you could get food into your cupboards, the whole community pulled together to get home schooling rolled out and a whole rota of activities and support to provide frontline care for our key workers who are keeping the infrastructure of the country in tact. We wish everyone well in this time of uncertainty and feel very fortunate to be part of the school community we are in.

Why not try some home baking? Ingredients 75g butter, softened 50ml vegetable oil 125g caster sugar 2 large eggs 125g self-raising flour 2 tbsp milk 1 tsp vanilla extract Method 1. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Line 2 x 12 hole bun tins or mini muffin tins with paper cake cases. Put all the fairy cake ingredients into a large bowl and whisk together with electric hand beaters until smooth. If you don’t have these you can use a wooden spoon or balloon whisk (see tip). 2. Dollop the mixture into the prepared cases until it’s all used up. Bake for 10-12 mins or until golden and springy. To be sure they’re cooked through, poke a cocktail stick into the centre of one of the cakes in a middle row – if it comes out cleanly, it’s cooked. Leave to cool in the tin for 5-10mins then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before decorating. 3. Mix the icing sugar with enough water to make it the consistency of thick cream. Colour some or all of the icing with a few drops of your chosen food colouring(s) then drizzle over the top of the cooled fairy cakes. Sprinkle with your chosen toppings while the icing is still wet. Leave to set firm before serving. Will keep for 2 days in an airtight container.

To decorate 250g icing sugar food colouring

(optional) Sprinkles or Jellies

Here are some mindfulness activities you can do with your

child to help them build resilience, mental wellbeing

and positive relationships within your family. As a

school, we pledged to help you with ideas for these

activities.

Mindful monsters is a set of ideas for mindfulness

activities that are ‘FREE’ and so accessible by everyone. They

focus on different aspects including:

relaxation (light blue), concentration (purple)

creativity (pink) positivity (orange).

Try out this month’s activities as a family over the Easter break.

Why don’t you let us know how they went? We would love the feedback!
