WELCOME
A Message From The Pastor… Dear Brothers and Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel,
I have some major local news to share this week.
I requested retirement with the Carmelites this winter. I am seventy-five years old, and have been ordained for fifty years. When I came here in 2015, I did not want to be retired. Now I do. Some medical concerns have surfaced. I believe it is time. Cardinal Joseph Tobin, Archbishop of Newark, has accepted the recommendation of my Carmelite superiors that Fr. Mark Shaffner, O.Carm. be our next pastor. Fr. Mark will become the twenty-seventh pastor in the long brown line of Carmelites who have served Our Lady of Mount Carmel since 1878. Fr. Mark will begin on August 15, 2019.
This is very good news for two reasons. Fr. Mark is sixty-four years old and has been ordained for thirty years. He has served as a pastor for twenty of those years in Texas and in Florida. He applied for the pastorate of OLMC, so that means he really does want to be here.
Secondly, the Carmelites are withdrawing our services from four parishes around the country as of June 30, 2019. St. Anastasia parish in Teaneck is one of them. The fact that OLMC is getting another Carmelite is a blessing in this time of Carmelite downsizing.
I feel good about our four years together. We have accomplished some good things together. It has been my personal blessing to be part of this proud Catholic parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Let us continue to pray for one another.

THE EMMAUS MINISTRY A One-Day Retreat for Grieving Parents
The Office of Family Life Ministries of the Archdiocese of Newark invites all parents who have suffered the death of a child of any age and by any cause to attend a one-day retreat on Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM at Notre Dame RC Church, 359 Central Avenue, North Caldwell, NJ.
The schedule consists of small discussions, personal witnesses, fellowship, prayer and talks by clergy and other bereaved parents. Pre-registration is required; space is limited. Registration fee: $25/person or $40/couple; includes three meals and all retreat materials.

THIRD SATURDAY MASS
All are welcome to Church of St. Mary, 20 Legion Place, Closter for the Third Saturday Mass on June 15, 2019 at 12 Noon. Mass is offered for the support, healing and recovery of not only the person directly affected with the abuse of alcohol and/or drugs, but also for anyone involved in the life of the alcoholic or drug addict. Monday Acts 19:1-8; John 16:29-33 Saint Charles Lwanga and Companions, Martyrs (Memorial) – Twenty-two martyrs of Uganda died on June 3, 1886 and were canonized in 1964. Charles Lwanga and his predecessor, as master of the royal pages, had reproached King Mwanga for his cruelty and immorality. The king ordered that Charles and the other young Christian pages to be put to death. About 100 people died during the persecution. By 1890, however, the number of Christians had increased to about ten thousand. (Source: Living With Christ, June 2019)

Thank you to everyone for your support of Catholic Heart Work Camp. The Catholic Heart Work Camp team is collecting funds to support the teens from our parish who will be attending Catholic Heart Work Camp in June. Catholic Heart Work Camp is an opportunity for our teens to be involved in social projects in a Catholic environment where they will get to meet teens from other parts of the U.S.
Donations are still being accepted. Sponsor forms are available at the back of the church. Every person who signs up and who gives $10 or more will be invited to a social after our return so that you can see pictures taken during the week, and to have a chance to talk to the teens who took part in the week. Donations should be made through the regular Mass collection (in a clearly marked envelope) or dropped off at the Church Office. Please make checks payable to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and note in the memo line “CHWC.” Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

What is RCIA? Is RCIA for You?
The Church welcomes into the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults process of preparation persons who have never been baptized, those already baptized in another Christian tradition, or baptized Catholics who have not received First Eucharist or Confirmation. The celebration of Christian initiation takes place at the Easter Vigil liturgy. Children’s Liturgy of the Word will resume in September. If you are an adult who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation and are interested in sharing the Catholic faith with the young people of our parish community, please consider joining the Children’s Liturgy of the Word ministry. Please complete the Ministry Sign-up form on page 6 of this bulletin and return it to the Church Office or the Religious Education Office, or drop it in the Sunday collection basket.
HOME STUDY STUDENTS
Families whose student has been studying at home during this year’s Religious Education Program are reminded to continue their religion studies by completing their textbook. The Religious Education Office will be in touch with home study families regarding a test date.

According to an information estimate by the National Catholic Education Association, somewhere between eighty and ninety percent of Catholic children now receive religious education in parish religious education programs. What should a parent expect from a religious education program?
